• Firstly, I believe Jacob ‘touched’ Illana and co in the same he did the Losties at pivotal moments in their lives, but unlike the Losties [yet], they were enlightened and made his followers. They may not know everything, but they definitely know about Jacob & Anti-Jacob!
• In doing this Jacob started proceeding with his own loophole, which ended with the deliverance of the dead John Locke to ‘Richard’ [she knew of him but he didn’t of her and company, I think Jacob’s been keeping things even from him…] Now that the proof is there for all to see, the true beginning of the end begins, with the arrival of the Losties from 1977!
• Now, as for Hurley, notice how he is the only one that Jacob has an actual chat with, especially on the Island, the ghosts he sees and can talk to and about his ‘curse’. This is because Hurley is special, and a variable [different from Desmond, but one in his own right], and thus is invaluable as he is ‘blessed’ and makes his own luck.
• When his faith in everything, especially himself, was at an all-time low, who appeared? ‘Dave’, and unlike any spirit Hurley has interacted with [IIRC], here was a malevolent one who was trying to get Hurley to kill himself. I fully believe that this was an act orchestrated by Anti-Jacob, who until then couldn’t touch Hurley [but the aforementioned allowed it to happen], for he knew Hurley was special, a variable, a game-changer, but he still failed and Hurley continued to bring luck to himself and all who were his allies.
• Going back to that other scene, Jacob subtly convinces Hurley to go back, using Manipulation Rule 101; make them think it’s their own idea! The added push needed is done with the guitar case, which despite radical speculation, is in my honest opinion just what it is – one of Charlie’s guitars.
• And so Hurley does get on the 316 Flight, but not before buying the tickets of most of those whom were going to be on it. Unlike the rest [who never think of the other passengers for a second], Hurley in an act of pure selflessness does. He saves them from being more pawns in the Jacob & Anti-Jacob game, why is this especially important you ask? Well...
• Now think back, Anti-Jacob took on Locke’s form because of his leadership title of the Others [one left open and left unfilled once Locke flashed off the Island] and he brought all the Others [apart from maybe those at the Temple] to Jacob.
• ‘They’ll have much to do after this’ he says [or something along those lines], meaning the Others would’ve become his foot soldiers but not now that Jacob’s meddled, and everyone knows he’s not John Locke at all… I’d be very surprised if any of them lost faith in Richard and left the group [but it’d be interesting to see how he reacted, sure]!
• So who is leftover? The Ajira castaways, of course.
• With no Others left to compromise [like Claire was, for example], then his earlier statement of ‘dealing away with them’ will have to rethought, and now they’ll have to become his foot soldiers in the coming war.
• Trouble is though… that Hurley’s earlier actions ensured that instead of a hundred or so potential vessels, he now has under half of that number!
• But whilst Jacob is now dead, the body of John Locke remains undamaged, so unless Anti-Jacob burns it too then perhaps we may still see the real John Locke once more, under the light of the Temple…
