After watching the season finale I was wondering a few things about Jacob and his relationship to the island. Firstly, is it really Jacob's cabin we have been seeing this whole time. Ben has said that he has never met Jacob, so how does he know that the cabin he has been visiting is Jacob's. If jacob lives underneath the statue, why does he need a cabin? My thoughts are that the cabin is actually where Jacobs unnamed friend (who i believe to be inhabiting Locke's body) is being kept. The ring of ash is meant to keep him weak and unable to kill Jacob or fulfill his evil plans. As a result, he must work through mediums such as the smoke monster and Christian in order to achieve his goals. Somehow he knows that John Locke is a man of destiny and uses this to his advantage. Telling John he must move the island, die, etc. It is all this mysterious mans way of finding a loophole so that he can kill Jacob. When Ilana se! es the ash broken ans the knife through the picture of the statue, she knows that the man has escaped and is after jacob.
Also, in reference to JAcob's statements about Ben, i believe that Ben was never allowed to see Jacob because Ben was never meant to be an other. Ben became an other because he was given to Richard by Kate and Sawyer in order for his life to be saved. As a result, he is an outsider to the others. He managed to manipulate his way to power (partially because Widmore was banished for whatever reason) and as a result he became the leader of the others, despite not having the lineage or qualifications. Ben was "the leader" but was not special which is why "jacob said what about you."
I am still honestly not sure where lost is going. I know that there will be a showdown between Jacob's troops and the mysterious Jacob counterparts troops, but I do not know how it will play out or how the 815ers will fit in. Have to wait for season six for all that info.
