Well... it really is simple. The bomb is detonated or not by Jack, but our losties keep living on the island...they don't just die.
In the meantime of 30 years from the 70's to 00's they get... duplicates, while they grow old.
That is their original births. People who will live and grow up to do the same things and have the same outcome.
Lock living now: Duplicate Locke after Jack's attempt. Ages match. He is the same age as his original duplicate would be. Knows stuff from his older duplicate possibly. He is more confident and knows about the people he is about to meet.
Original (deceased) Locke: If he was living, and boarded on the plane, he would be transfered back to the 70's as well, and at 2007 would be 70 years old.
I bet the same is for everyone who went back to 1970's times.
But I have a small issue here. Why wasn't Sun and Ben back to 70's? Did the past changes alter Sun marrying Jin? Alter Ben's past with the island? Was Ben never brought to the island?
Like I said in another theory if the past changes after you lived it, you don't get to live it again, because time is linear. You have your memories of what happened, unless you read an old newspaper to only find out that.. it didn't!
Apparently, the others are aware of this, and this is why they insist that much on WH,H. Because this is the only they can know exactly what is going to happen.
Eloise will send her son to the island knowing she'll murder him, but this is her belief. Things must not be changed.
On the other hand, Jack wants to change things.
This is the war that is coming. After changing the past, "The whatever happened, happened" team will try to restore the past they know of...by visiting it.
The "Change it" people manage somehow, to be the variables in the way that the incident is avoided, fertility won't be an issue, Dharma will leave once and for good (avoiding the purge as well).
The losties of the past on season 6 will try to change WH'H, by contacting themselves, on things to be done and avoided. We'll be watching two different timelines, and be in agony for which timeline is the final one. Probably if the outcome is not good for either side, the events will take place again, and variables will be reprogramed.
It is going to be and endless loop. People killed, but the very same time, born again.
