So my theory is a bit of a two parter. First off, I was intrigued to see that Hurley's notorious guitar case was a gift to him from none other than Jacob! At first I simply thought that this was another addition to the little accessories taken onboard Ajira 316 to replicate the circumstances of the original flight. But that seemed a bit too dismissive of the situation.
Hurley is the one Lostie that Jacob actually leveled with. There was little to no pretense about where he was from, and what his purpose talking to Hugo was. That seems like a BIG deal. It could be argued that he spoke to the other Losties at times in their life where they woudlnt understand about the Island, but then remember that he visited Sayid after he was already one of the O6, and still played a ruse with him.
So not only does Jacob actually talk frankly with Hugo, but he also gives him the guitar case, and they make special reference to the fact that it is not Jacobs. I know that its easy to just say that its Charlie's but I'm not so sure. For one the two cases dont look the same (shape of the top portion as well as missing the stickers Charlie had on his case). I think if Jacob was going to bother bringing Charlie's guitar all the way from the island then he probably could stand to bring the proper case as well. They haven't revealed what's in that case for an obvious reason, and i think its because whatever is in that case is NOT what we are expecting and will come into play next season.
There's been alot of talk about Hurley being (possibly) the variable in all this because hes been the odd man out for all five seasons (I've heard it discussed numerous times on the ODI postcasts). I'm thinking that whatever is in that case is something that Hugo will have to use next season, and considering it was given to him by Jacob and pretty secretly since its in an unassuming guitar case, I think its going to be pretty important. Possibly something that can even safe his "life", now that Ben got the shank on him.
