okay my theory is short and long at the same time. in the variable eloise told young daniel about his destiny. she new his destiny was to be killed by her that is why she was so strong on daniel about going to the island. in the episode she said for the first time she didnt know what was going to happen next. that is because of something changing. someone may have avoided death or died saving someone. she didnt know what was going to happen to desmond. but back in 316 she told him the island was not done with him. but she sounded unconfident about the island needing desmond anymore. i believe penny was supposed to die. but desmond broke a rule and saved her.
back in 77' our oceanic survivors our trying to change the future. i believe in the variable also as WH,H theory to. but i think the 06 and the time traveling survivors were sent back in time to change there future. but they arent going to change the crash. in the promo for follow the leader jack swims into the temple and sayid and a few other people are their to. i think they will stay there. jack will go to the swan and sawyer will go to try and stop him. sawyer will drill the hole in the dirt while jack tries to somehow stop him. sawyer drills a little to deep and the energy with the orchid meet up with the swan and boom. the light flashes one more time and jack is standing in the swan pit from when it imploded. but there is no sawyer, sawyer was killed when he drilled the hole. that explains the fork in the outlet. jack then heads to the temple and tells juliet, kate, sayid, jin, and hurley what had happened. they all head to the beach but see john's other's camp and joi! n them. but then there is one more blinding light. that takes them to 2036, they are on the island and aaron is the leader of the new dharma his wife jiyeon and they classify the survivors as hostiles as others and keep them as prisoners.
