Quite a simple theory here... apologies if the idea has already come up before...
Given that so far we have been shown past events either by a character's flashback or by a character physically travelling backwards through time, does this give us a clue about how the producers are going to show us the history of the Statue and the Ancients? Will it be via a flashback of a present character, implying someone has been around for a LONG time (Richard?), or will it be by another bit of time-travelling?
It's already been theorised that Richard is 'an Ancient' given the fact he doesn't seem to age, so are we going to have a Richard episode at some point? If yes, I'd say this would probably happen towards the end of the final season, as it could reveal all of the secrets of the Island in one go. If indeed Richard is an Ancient, does the partial destruction of the Statue imply that that was a turbulent time in the Island's history?
If instead the story of the Statue is explained via a time-travelling character, and given that the time-travelling we've seen so far relies on the FDW, will the Incident at the Swan (if indeed the Swan 'incident' is 'THE INCIDENT') have a knock-on effect on the Orchid station? Given that the Purge will happen after the Incident (going by Ben's age in the van with his father just before the Purge, I'd say at least 10 years), then it seems that the Incident doesn't affect everyone on the Island (i.e. kill them) as Ben has to have Dharma people to kill in the Purge (I'm assuming WHH here and not PCC). Will it in fact be the Losties which jump back to the Ancient times, a neat way to stop them from being killed off in the Purge?
[P.S. Some random extra stuff: Juliet has seemed very calm during a lot of the events occurring in this season, so is she hiding something? Also, to be a bit of a language geek, what LIES in the shadow of the Statue may not be talking about a location at all, but instead be talking about a deception? Does the Smoke Monster always tell the truth? :)]
