what about if there is only one end - but after that the games starts anew? what about if jacob's wish is that there was no end - just continous progess - transcendental progession?
jacob and the other guy are fighting about the nature of man. jacob wants to convince blackshirt that man is good and worthy, and can be good and worthy on his own, while blackshirt wants jacob to die by the hand of man himself - in utter defeat.
but what after the killing of a god? will man step up and take god's place taking "good" and "evil" into his own hands? or will he start destroying everything (even more)?
here is my point: maybe this game has been going on for countless times. all over again. maybe what resets the pieces is the destruction of the island/paradise by "man who killed god" - leading to freshly set up pieces. in the end we talk about deities here - so they are aware of the "loop" they are in - unlike mere mortals who move linear, well at least normally, through time.
the game would stop, because it would lose its meaning, if white won and humans worthy of living without the need for higher, guiding powers would roam the island/world. jacob is searching for these special people who could run "destiny" (i.e. create their own destiny) once he is gone. he did this before, died before, only to be "betrayed" by his choices who ended up being corrupted by power. mabye those visits he made to our heroes are the finishing touches they neeeded to become the leaders that might prevent time from stopping after jacob's - in a certain sense - deliberate demise.
i was never too much of an infinity-loop fan, but the clear statements the creators of this show made about the nature of jacob and his antagonist and the "eternal" argument they are having changed this. i also think jacob would not have accepted his death-sentence knowing that THIS would be the end.
