So I was thinking about the idea that with the lack of a little Daniel running around, his absence is noticeable. Most think that Daniel has to be alive already because it is 1977 and he is older than thirty when we meet him. Yet, again, no little kids in Otherton.
So, I believe Ellie is pregnant now and during the Incident she is taken off-island (the same way someone is deposited at the exit in Tunisia) and ends up where there is a "corresponding" pocket of energy (perhaps the lamp post?).
Yet, when she arrives she finds herself in an earlier time and nonetheless pregnant. I do not believe she could be pregnant with Penny based on how she referred to her during her exchange with Widmore at the end of the Variable.
