I think the H bomb was always detonated. I think it makes perfect sense and would explain SO MUCH about season 2.
I think the goal of the season was to explain season 2 and the goal of our 1977 losties was to accomplish what they were always meant to accomplish...the incident/detonation of the bomb. The incident is the "black hole moment + the detonation that will cause an implosion and a flash(Jack and friends time traveling to 2007). Imagine if you are Chang and Radzinsky, you have a black hole kinda thing happening, then an implosion and a flash...and the time travelers aren't there anymore. THAT is worthy of an incident.
The effect of the H bomb and the EM energy pocket caused an implosion at the Swan site that will stabilise, for a while, the EM energy. This will be the inspiration for the failsafe device Desmond will one day use to stabilise the EM energy at the Swan hatch. Radzinsky probably figured it out after Juliette detonated it. The failsafe is probably nuclear energy to negate the EM energy(two opposing forces, like magnetic and gravity). When you turn the key, you activate a nuclear device.
They will cement the area to stop the radiation as best as they can. This is why Sayid once said, under the hatch, that it was like Chernobyl. I'm pretty sure the Swan area will be sensible to radiations since it's too close, thus the yellow suits with the masks, and the shots they have to give themselves every nine days. This is probably the reason for the "quarantine" on the hatch door. Of course, the radiations will stop at some point and Kelvin will lie about it to Desmond for the reasons we know.
I also believe that the 1950 H bomb wasen't strong enough to completly contain the EM energy OR not contain it long enough. To contain it, they will design the button you push every 108 minutes. And like I said before, they will design the failsafe device which is a nuclear device strong enough to negate it for good.
In a way, the 1977 losties saved the world from Radzinsky stupid experiments!
The result of the nuclear and electromagnetic energy causes an implosion, but also a rift in space/time that will transport you to when and where you need to go. Remember Desmond? When he turn the key, he went when and where he needed to be to learn about his destiny. It will do the same for the 1977 losties(hope they wake up naked!!). They will be transported to 2007 to accomplish what they have to accomplish to help the good guy(who knows who's good anymore).
Time travel was never random in Lost and the writters have made it clear in the recap before the episode. The flashes showed them important things that would help them along the way. Ben, when he turned the wheel, went 6 months in the future...just when Sayid's wife died.
Locke went 3 years in the future, when the O6 had to return.
It was never random.
I think this chain of events that always happened is crucial and had to happen for whatever will be happening in season 6.
