In the episode entitled the Incident we were informed that the reason that Richard Alpert has not been aging since his arrival on the island is due to Jacob giving him the gift of ever youth.
My question is this, if Jacob is now dead and gone will the things he has done (spells he has cast) also fade?
Take Richard for example, maybe the only reason Richard did not age was because he had some sort of higher level connection that Jacob granted to him.
If this is so then we can either expect Richard to disintegrate on the spot, or age at an extremely fast pace and die.
For those of you who are not familiar with the Irish mythical tale of Tir na nOg, the land of Eternal Youth, which is actually an island. There is a subject called Oisin who lives on this magical island and never ages, he has the ability to go back into the real world with one rule, that he may never touch the ground. If he touches the ground then he would age instantly, his years past on the island catching up with him in a moment, and this is exactly what happens to him. He withers and dies in an instant. It is this kind of experience that suggest will happen to Richard.
So, to recap what I am proposing is that with Jacob dead and gone, the spell over Richard will fade, Richard will experience a moment in which all of those past years will catch up with him and he will fade from existence.
This saddens me as I quite like Richard, although it will be very interesting as with Locke now being the ultimate bad guy, a crisis leadership role would fall to Richard, but if Richard falls over and dies then who is there to lead out of the group standing outside the statues foot??
Scary thought.
Thanks for reading.
