Since about season 2 or 3, I started coming up with this theory. I was thinking about how things seem different on the island as apposed to real life.
Time is different on the island, you say, of course, we already knew that, but what I say is , it is a different time than off the island.
Not just minutes, as in the rocket, I mean time is only relative to the outside world. I don't buy the baseball video Ben showed Jack or the video of Juliette's sister. What if on the island, you don't know what year it is? I think the only years we know for sure are Dharma years. If the island is always moving, then if the plane leaves Sidney on one year and crashes on another year, say before some things have happened to you in real life, how would things be different? What if the heading means not just a certain place but a certain time?
How could Dharma food still be dropping? Locke can walk? Rose's cancer is gone? Seeing dead people? Locke's resurrection? Hieroglyphs, statues, and Black Rock? Richard never seeming to age? Rain coming and going from nowhere? Hearing voices in the jungle?
If the Lamp post station can predict when and where the island will be, then wouldn't that mean there is some sort of pattern.
I know it is not popular right now since Widmore said to Faraday that he put the plane in the ocean but part of me still doesn't believe.
What if he pretended to fake the plane to others because he didn't want them to know the true nature of the island? He knew they already knew that the island existed but not the total truth about the island. If the plane wasn't "found" then maybe someone would go looking for it and find something he doesn't want found by anyone but himself. There are at least two people who seem to want the island for themselves.
If they do change the past, it won't be their past but the others past. Maybe the only ones who can change the past are the ones who created it already. The others need them. I believe Jacob is trapped somehow and wants Locke's help to free him.
Maybe crashing on the island is the WHH but something else is the incident that needs to be changed by the only person who can be two places that once (Desmond) yes, I said it . He is the only one who can be physically in one place but mentally in another. I think he is the wild card. The reason Ms Hawking was so determined to get Desmond to fulfill his "destiny". Maybe at the time she thought by sending Desmond back that she could save her son, but she now knows he can't , so now she has no knowledge of future events. Just like Desmond couldn't save Charlie, Ms Hawking realizes that her son was meant to die. Something else has to change.
I believe the whole purpose of the show is to resolve the main characters' pasts. No matter what happens with the island, it is the personal journey of the human race that moves any great piece of literature, movie or in this case tv show. Where would Star Wars be without the personal, familial conflict between Vader and Luke?
Now, I have been reamed before, so I won't get mad if someone bashes my theory. But I do have a pretty good idea who might show up to comment strongly against my ideas.
Now you have a topic, discuss.
