Okay so this theory is kinda absurd but I think it's fun and based on the way story arcs generally go I am just getting a feeling about who Kate will end up with.
I think that Kate is going to end up with Sawyer. I was rewatching the series finale of Dawson's Creek (i'm a dork) and I found the love quadrangle to be very similar. In this comparison Jen is Juliet, Joey is Kate, Pacey is Sawyer, and Dawson is Jack.
Jen died in the finale of Dawson's Creek (hope I didn't ruin that for anyone). And a lot of people are speculating that Juliet will die because Elizabeth Mitchell may have to be filming a lot more for her new series. I know Elizabeth said she wasn't going to die on the show but so did Rebecca Mader and Charlotte died. To me Juliet like Jen in other ways too. Capable, pretty, dynamic, but for some reason she seems to be second choice for Sawyer and Jack. She isn't the one that they are automatically drawn to. At this point if any of them end up with her it won't feel genuine to the viewers because it is clear that both men have a soft spot for Kate. So I can see them either killing her off or doing something else so that she is removed from the love quandrangle. And Juliet is way too cool to accept being someone's second choice for life.
Kate is very much like Joey Potter. Both basically independent and very capable of taking care of themselves. And Pacey is very much like Sawyer, a joker but very witty and clever in his own way. In the end Joey ends up with Pacey and Dawson is left to live for his film work. Like Dawson, Jack is too conventional and Kate is not a conventional girl. They tried being engaged and to me it seemed a little contrived. Like they were playing house the same way Juliet and Sawyer are. I just don't think that Kate could be happy with someone like Jack forever. He's too predictable and it seems that his destiny is gearing up to be the island. And seeing as they already did the happy ending for Jack and Kate and it didn't work out, it wouldn't make sense story wise for them to go back to being a happy family again. Also, Sawyer already was a gentleman once and hopped out of the helicopter, bowing out of that love triangle gracefully so that Kate could get off the island. I do! n't think he would willingly leave Kate again. It feels like it could be Jack's turn to sacrifice his happiness for Kate and Sawyer.
When all was said and done, Pacey got the girl and all Dawson got was his creek. And I think in Lost, Sawyer will get the girl and Jack will get the island.
