Ok, so Daniel has been killed in 1977. Looks pretty damn official. The majority of us fans however def think we will see him again, not as a crazy ghost or anything, but when Lost lets us know what happened to him in his Ann Arbor time, and with his experimentation involving himself, and Theresa, and then I will move onto Brahm, Ilana, and a little End Game.
This is my longest most thought out theory ever, so try to keep it to a 1 flame per reader limit -)
Daniel experimented on himself, and a lot of us, including me, believe that experimentation to have allowed his consciousness to time travel as Desmond did in "The Constant".
Other than that, the producers have left us very little information about the process he went through with his experiments. All we know for sure is.
A) Daniel tested it on himself and it worked fine.
B) Daniel then used it on Theresa and she ended up in a "brain dead" coma. (Id say she had no constant wherever she went)
C) Daniel ends up with a very bad memory loss condition.
I believe Daniel used it first, went on a mind/time trip.
Theresa did not have the same experience.
I think its logical to assume that after she was hurt, Daniel tried over and over again to back in the past and stop himself from using on her, but he just could not do it, and after so many trips his memory began to fry away. Also, more importantly, it has to do with his constant as we all know, and I will get to that later.
Daniel indeed used his experiment on himself, and his consciousness time traveled. But.....to where and when???
Well, ever since we have seen Daniel, he has never lost consciousness like Desmond had been, or got "sick" so badly that he needed to find Desmond (his constant) to recover.
Therefor, we can assume that in all the time we have seen Daniel, he has been himself, not another version of himself as he would be if his Oxford counterpart took his spot.
One last mystery that the producers have left for us regarding Daniel that remains after his death, is:
1. What was he doing in Ann Arbor 1974-1977?
2. We know his mom gave him the journal (the first page was blank, dont know about the rest), but where did the information within the journal come from?
I think both of these questions are explained in conjunction with Daniels time consciousness jumping in Oxford.
My theory is that 20 something Daniel, when he tested his project on himself, time traveled back into his 1974 body in Michigan (which actually is himself from the FUTURE, I hope you all got that)
But that's impossible, right? If you think that doesn't make sense, consider the fact that although that Daniels body in 1974 is actually him from 2007, it is STILL technically in the past.
Imagine Daniel's surprise when he notices that its 1974, and yet he is approx 30 years old. It is in that moment, that Oxford Daniel realizes that in his own future, he will be time traveling to 1974.
Here's where it gets a little more hard to follow (for some).
We will start with the 2007 Daniel that is in Dharmaville with Sawyer, Juliet, Miles, and Jin.
Daniel, at this point in time, still strongly believes in WH,H. Also, due to the island giving his memory back, he most likely now remembers his Oxford time traveling days back to this time period in Ann Arbor.
Since he knows this version of himself was there, he knows he must go there, not only because of WH,H, but so that when his Oxford counterpart takes his consciousness, he is prepared to set up a way to get valuable information to him.
What EXACTLY he does will remain a mystery until its shown to us, however we can get a general idea of what may have happened if this theory proves true.
He may write himself messages for himself when he takes over his consciousness. He may try to tell some scientists what is about to happen. Most will not believe him, but maybe there will be one. If he tells a scientist buddy that in a short while, that hes not going to be himself, but a version of himself from the future (yes, even though its actually his past). Ask him something about the near future and he will tell you what happened.
Anyway, that last paragraph was kinda besides the point. You get the idea now. Most likely, this is how a lot of future information ends up in Daniels hands in 2007.
Anyhow, now we have to deal with why people would say this theory is no good.
What about Daniel's constant, Desmond? How will Daniel survive these jumps?
Well, there are three options.
A) Desmond is there with him at some point in the 1974-1977 time frame as a young child (Yes, hes Scottish, but we know nothing of Desmond's childhood)
B) 2007 Desmond who is heading back to the island (we know hes gotta do it at some point!!) ends up in the 1970s, like Jack, Kate and Co.
C) Desmond is not there at all, and THAT is the reason Daniels mind ends up fucked and his memories are gone or distorted! (i go with that)
I am sure that the line in large bold letters in his journal "If anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume is my constant", was the 2007 version of himself, trying to tell that to his Oxford self who was taking over his consciousness.
Perhaps he was trying to help himself avoid his memory loss? But I thought Daniel believed in WH,H? Oh wait, thats right. Something changed that.
He forgot about the variables. The people. Maybe during this experience in having his consciousness taken over by his Oxford self, something happened that showed him he could change things. So, he spent 3 years starting in 1974 trying to prevent himself from ever losing his memory.
That act would change the course of a lot of things. He wouldnt have gotten onto the freighter, wouldnt have gotten jughead buried, and his journal would never fall into (probably) Jack's hands.
So? If WH,H is true (as i believe. Daniel DID lose his memory), or even if it ISNT true, this theory can still make sense if you consider the following:
In order to ensure that Daniel ends up on the path Eloise and Charles obviously want him on (in their opinion, the real timeline), the logical thing to do would be to make sure his constant is separated from him while he is time traveling, therefor gathering information in a journal for Eloise to see (in 1977 he could leave a copy in a safety deposit box for her) and Daniel then forgetting about it when his consciousness returns to his oxford time.
Daniels father, as we now know, is Charles Widmore. His mother is Eloise Hawking. He is the half sister of Penny. Desmond, his constant, is in love with Penny.
Eloise and Charles, I believe, both believe in WH,H......to an extent. I say this because, yes, Eloise needed Daniel to get back to the island with information about the incident, and yes, she knew she was going to kill him. But Eloise LOVED Daniel, you could tell, so if she could still send him back with the information, why wouldnt she tell him "hey watch out, im gonna try to shoot you in the back"?
Why? Because she thinks she cant change it (or shes really really really not supposed to)
Anyway, Charles did all he could to keep Desmond away from anything remotely close to him or his family for some time. Remember how harshly he treated Desmond when he tried to ask him for Pennys hand in marriage? It was awful. He wanted Desmond OUT of there.
Later on Desmond barges into Widmore offices and demands Eloise Hawkings location. Widmore, who we thought despised him, hands him the information without a problem.
THEN, years later, he arrives at Desmonds hospital after he had been shot by ben. Penny was there too. But he asks Eloise if DESMOND is ok....not his daughter? She says hes fine, and Widmore says "Good".
Whats with the hate-love spectrum that is Widmore's connection to Des? It would make sense that he didn't have anything personally against him, he just needed him out of the picture for a while (So did Eloise, from the Constant), probably around the time that Daniel was time skipping.
Well, what better way to kill two birds with one stone, get Des out of the area for a while and get him to his "destiny" of pushing the button in the hatch by sending him out on a boat trip around the damn world?
This all brings me back to one major point. Faraday, after his 3 years time going in and out of consciousness, somehow realizes that he forgot about the variables. And yes the people are the variables.
HOWEVER. Every equation is different, and every equation has a different number of constants and variables. I believe our Lost equation contains only one variable (person), and that it is Desmond (what I and countless others have been arguing for for what seems like ever).
I'm winding down now, thank you so much for reading this far.
We are seeing a lot of events being shaped into fruition on account of people trying to "change" time. What have we seen so far when this happens? Well.....
1. Jacks decision to not operate on Ben, ended up causing Ben to become the "evil" man Jack considers him to be. Same with Sayid shooting him.
2. The probable, (in my mind) event of Jack blowing up jughead to prevent the incident and his plane crashing, will actually be the CAUSE of the incident and his plane crashing.
This gets me to the last part of my theory. Brahm, Ilana and company.
Well, they say they are the side thats going to win. When he spoke with Miles he seemed like a good guy (to a certain extent).
After spending so much time digesting all the information I am sharing with you all, and my last couple paragraphs specifically, I now believe there are atleast two "sides" and probably more.
The ones I will speak of for now are.
Eloise and Charles.
Brahm and Co.
We know something terrible is going to happen in the future where all of humanity will be at stake (its strong speculation atleast). I believe Brahm and company are going to the island to try to PREVENT this event from happening (which would to the naked eye make them the GOOD guys).
However, we have a problem. Whatever it is in the box they are going to use to "fix" the problem or prevent the apocolyptic future, they will actually end up being the ones RESPONSIBLE for it unintentionally! Why else show us how people trying to change things are creating the things they don't want to happen in the first place! Several times, I might add.
Eloise and Charles know about this group. Where or what time they are from I still cannot speculate on, but the two of them know that it is imperative that they be stopped.
This effectively, makes both groups "good guys" but one group being an unknowing (to themselves) cause of disaster.
Widmore tells Locke that he needs to be on the island when that war comes. Why?
Because he is the only one that the others will listen to at this point. He can organize against Brahms group. Maybe he can even get through to one of them. But also, and I think most importantly, is because of the faith that he will eventually install into Jack.
I think that while yes, Desmond is the variable, Jack may be something entirely different. I think that when Jack finally meets Locke again and sees him alive, it will completely cement his recently forming foundation of faith, and prepare him for whatever epic thing he will end up doing in season 6.
Theres a lot I was unable to work into this theory so maybe you guys can help. Here are just a couple things (out of a million) that have frustrated me.
Bens connection. (Eloise's indifference to sending him back)
The other losties connections to Eloise and Charles.
Thank you guys very much for reading.
