"You gotta be Sick to Know this!" by J@m!$0n
Okay, so I'm suprised that no one else seen this or written about this yet...
This is my first theory, so be easy..:)
When Rousseau's team went into the temple/under the wall and came back out, they were different; they suddenly acted as if they wanted to protect the island and rid the island of anyone who didn't belong.
Then we found out that once Richard Alpert brings Ben to their Temple that he will never be the same; he will always be one of them.
Now i guess once someone becomes "one of the originals," they somehow become endowed with knowledge of the island and they may act to normal people as if they were "infected" with some crazy sickness they caught on the island or something.
Now if someone were to become endowed with info about the island via the Natives, they would know something about the statue. Now if someone had grown up on this island and their ancestors grew up here (during the time of the Statue), the Statue would be something hugely important to them. "What lies in the shadow of [this hugely important to us and to our ancestors] the statue" would then only be known to people who have been on the island.
Okay..so now I don't know what lies in the shadow, but I can tell you with almost a perfect guarantee that Ilana and the Seth Rogan guy and possibly more have been "infected" and have become a "Hostile" in 2007. Maybe they followed Ben and Locke and went INTO the wall (through the door) instead of under it and became infected, then left. Or something.
Otherwise, HOW ELSE WOULD THEY KNOW ABOUT THE STATUE if:
1. The only other non-DI/Other/Hostiles who know about it are Sun, Jin and Sayid; everyone else who knows about it is in the 70s.
2. The statue does not exist anymore in 2007 (unless if the timeline has been changed drastically; as far back as the volcano not erupting or whatever knocked it down)
3. I'm pretty sure they haven't searched the island, since it took 815 30 days or so to have only 3 people see it.
4. That's not something that even if they met Richard Alpert somehow that he would just be like
"Oh, hey guys- so look if you're ever in a pickle, and you're not sure if someone's supposed to be here on this island, just ask this question: "What lies in the shadow of the statue?" The answer is *******. You see, we had this statue that me & my Black Rock ancestors worshiped long ago...."
It makes the most sense.
**Credit for this theory goes to my best-LOST friend Liz for thinking this up, after I thought that they were secretly Hostiles who lived on the mainland for a while and finally came back....lol***See, Liz, I told you I would write a massive theory about it! <3
