I read something about ancients egyptians, and immediatly thought about Richard Alpert and the fact that he was not aging.
In ancient times, Pharaohs could renew their vital energy (ka) thanks to a special ritual. This ritual gave them the ability to live longer than what they should. For example, thanks to this ritual, Ramses II has been able to live for 90 years (which is huge at this time).
So my theory is that Richard knows about this ritual, and that the temple is the place where the ritual is taking place, and this is why he is not aging. He is renewing his vital energy so that he can live forever.
