The Island.
The island lies in the shadow of the statue. Depending on position of the Sun the statue casts a shadow in certain direction. That direction is changing simultaneously with day passing by. It moves across the island. So, logically, it shows different points all over the island during one day. Not just one point all the time. It is impossible.
But, Daniel said that the light on the island is different somehow, the shadows and the sun rays are different. He noticed that in 'Confirmed Dead'. He never explained how different.
So, I could take a wild guess and say it is the orchid, or the swan all the time because shadow stays on the same spot all the time. Period of day or the sun itself doesn't have any influence to the position of the shadow but since we don't have enough evidence I will not say that.
My guess is that the island lies in the shadow of the statue.
The question resembles to the one Desmond asked Locke:
"What did one snowman say to the other?"
His replacement would know the answer since he would know where he is going and what he is suppose to do once he get there.
When Bram asked Miles:
"What lies on the shadow of the statue?"
he wanted to see how much Miles knows. He wanted to see how much Widmore shared with Miles. He said that Miles is not ready, meaning Miles doesn't have a clue about the island. Bram asked Miles to join him. He also promised some answers about his identity if he does. But Miles refused, well he asked for more money.
So my guess is that Bram wanted to see if Miles knows anything regarding the history of the island.
Each and every part of the island is significant. The orchid, The Swan, Barracks with the tunnel, The Black Rock, The Temple, Hydra...all of it matter. Those places are the pieces of the puzzle and they all lie in the shadow of the statue because they are all part of the island. And the Island itself is what matters. DI searched for the island. Widmore searched for it. The Hostiles protected it for years. O6 left their lives to come back and save it. The Island is the main character here.
Not many people know about the island. Not many people know about the statue. The colossus who stood there for years as an entrance to the city. The symbol of power.
I also believe that the statue was destroyed by Locke, once he turned the wheel, because Miles said that the last flash was more like an earthquake. The "earthquake" was synonym for Colossus of Rhodes, the well known statue of Helios which was destroyed in earthquake.
(Helios was a personification of Sun (coincidence?).
As time passed, Helios was increasingly identified with the god of light, Apollo. (Apollo, Coincidence?)
"Different names may refer to the same being")
So that's it. The knowledge about the island and its history is the answer to the question. Because those who know the secrets of the island are those who search for it. Dharma Initiative.
Is that the upcoming war? New DI vs The Others a.k.a. The Hostiles but this time with both sides aware of the things?
