As shown through a few of Season 5's earlier episodes, Jughead and the U.S. military have a part to play in the future of LOST -- Darlton even confirmed they wouldn't have shown Jughead without it having some form of importance.
That brings me to my theory that "what lies in the shadow of the Statue" could be where the Others buried Jughead. Perhaps what's in the big box Illana has is excavation equipment to unearth the bomb and torch the island -- the war referenced by Widmore, read further.
It seems improbable that Illana works for Widmore, so any thoughts of him wanting to "re-torch" the island is out of my mind-set fo this theory. For one, Widmore had only known about the departure of the Oceanic 6 mere hours prior due to Ben's phone call, and it is doubtful he could orchestrate Illana to arrest Sayid the night before without knowing via Ben's call. Secondly, Widmore seems to have a deep investment with the security of the Island, even if it's in the hands of Ben, he wants the Island to survive.

The entire episode The Shape of Things To Come can be viewed to the literal impression that this is what the future of LOST holds: the Army versus the Island, with Jughead being the stepping stone to further mayhem. Theory by randomaxuvkindnez
