So we have all been there before. In a senario where we wished it would go away and not have to deal with it. We say in our minds, we wish we could start over, go somewhere, where no one knows you. Escape from reality..... Enter LOST
So lets look at all the people that wish away there issues!

John - Alchol and Pill prob
Kate- Killed her stepdad
Hurley - Won the lottery
John - is paralyzed
Sun - has a affair
Jin - Is a secret assain
Sayid - Kills people
Charlie - Has a drug problem
Claire - caused her mother's accident and is pregnant ready to give for adoption
Nikki & Paulo - Killed a man for Diamonds
Shannon & Boom - Siblings who are secretly in love
Rose - Has Cancer
Benard - Can't stand to loose rose
Sawyer - Is a con man
Desmond - Is a coward, who loves Penny and she does'nt want to deal with him anymore.
Micheal - Does not know how to be a father
Ben - Has daddy issues ETC
Ethan - Falls for Juilette even though he is married
Juilette - Cannot fix her sisters cancer
Tom - Is Gay ( and there is not a problem with that)
Anna Lucia - Lives up to the expectations of her mother
Libby - Has been faking who she really is... Mental Hospital, Husband who left her his boat upon death.
Daniel - Has hurt "Theresa" in some way
Charlotte - Never settled within herself
Miles - See's Dead people
Frank - Was suppose to fly the plane but did'nt Maybe alchol abuse.
Eko - Selling drugs pretending to be a preist
Naiomi - got involed in something she could not handle
Penny - wants to let desmond go
Walt - Just wants to be somewhere, where he can learn to love his father
Roger - Drinking problem
Horace - Losing his leadership??
Amy - Hiding her guilt for missing Paul
Christan - Was never a good father

I'm sure i have missed many, but notice how they all have issues. Some worse then others. Now picture yourself in any of these Senarios... Would you not wish it to go away????
The island is like wishing on a star... those who wish will come to the island. They recuite people at the worst times in ther lives ( Juilette, Roger & Ben) when all of a sudden things turn for worse and they need a escape. A escape route and healing process to make them better people. The smokey monster take out those who cannot change. ( Eko, Boome Shannon Etc.... )
As the island continues on more people will come

We don't know there story yet.... But I can guess they have some problems too!!! The island is a place to heal your soul, make you a better person. Lets look at that progress

Saywer - Wants to help his daughter
Jin - Wants to be himself for Sun regardless of the affair
Sun - wants to be with Jin now and you can see the love
Ben - Is showing how he cared for Alex when you thought he never did
John - Has excepted faith
Kate - Learned to be a mother, and face her own.
Hurley - Has forgiven his father for leaving
Frank - Now a pilot with a uniform. Security.
Juilette - Has accepted love
Micheal - Made himself a hero
Charlie - Kicked his habbit
Eko - Had found faith upon a stick
Shannon - Learned to love someone other then herself
Sayid - Took his anger out on building houses for the poor
Claire - Accepted motherhood, but knows whats best for her child

Anna Lucia and Libby and Walt I can't place yet. But look at what they have all overcomed... and cause they were sent to the island!!!!Its a bit of Never never land and Oz.... A place where strange things occur, but the outcome teaches you about yourself. Theory by ZoeBear
