After last night's episode I couldn't help from thinking about the scene when Hurley was at The Swan. First, everything is crumbling for our survivors who are a part of the Dharma Initiative. Ben's absence is causing an uproar and Kate certainly didn't help. So the remaining episodes will be how the DI find out about Sawyer and the gang, but I don't think that's as relevant to the overall story. I believe that the next episode will show the severe tension between the survivors and the DI and Daniel will have to explain the implications of time travel and what exactly can happen to them at this point in time.
Speaking of Daniel, he couldn't have been with Widmore or his mother because they are still a part of the Others so what was Daniel doing off-island in the late-70s? If it weren't for the fact that the DI were already on the island, then I would say he built The Lamppost. I'm still leaning toward that since we don't know too much about off-island life in the 70s yet.
Anyway, back to the point at hand. The overall debate the will culminate up to the finale will be whether of not to destroy, to alter, or prevent The Swan from being built. Hurley made it clear to Miles that The Incident is exactly what caused the button to have to be pushed, which caused Desmond to push it, which caused them to crash, which caused them years of pain and suffering. I would want to at least try to change this too. Although, Hurley may want to change it, and I'm sure Daniel will say it to him again, Whatever Happened, Happened! So I think by trying to stop The Incident, the survivors actually cause The Incident fulfilling their destiny as Islanders Class of 2004.
