Charles Widmore assumed John Locke was exiled by Benjamin Linus. How can this be? Charles Widmore knew Benjamin Linus was off the island 3 years before John Locke ended up in Tunisia. Sun told him. Benjamin payed him a visit.
Charles Widmore knew Benjamin Linus tried to kill John Locke. How? How if Charles Widmore was not on the island when that happened. Only people who knew about it were John, Ben, Richard Alpert, Sawyer, Hurley, Claire, Miles, Danielle, Alex and Karl. Danielle, Alex and Karl were dead right after they found out about that. Sawyer, Claire and Miles never left the island after that. Ben didn't tell him. John didn't tell him. Hurley? He never met Charles Widmore. Richard Alpert? Maybe. But...there is another option. Either one of these people are working for Charles Widmore as a spy. Or he was on the island and witnessed that. Or he was told that in the past. More likely.
Richard Alpert knew John Locke will have to die in order to get his friends back. He told him that in 2005. Right after John was shot by Ethan in 2001. How I know the date. Because that was the year when Yemi got shot and his plane crashed on the island. Same year Desmond and Juliet came to the island. 3 years after that Oceanic 815 crashed. 3 years after that O5 came back. 3 years. 1974 Sawyer and Co ended up in Dharma. 3 years after that O5 came and everything went out of their hands. 3 years.
Let's go back on Richard and John. He knew he was shot because John told him himself back in 1954. He also told him that Richard gave him a compass. The same compass John gave back to him. The same one Richard will give him now after he clears his wound. But John Locke didn't know he is gonna die back in 1954. But, Sawyer knows now in 1977 that John Locke is dead. He died trying to get O6 back. Jack told Sawyer John is dead, 1977. Sawyer told Richard John died, 1977 or a bit later. Richard will tell John he is going to die, 2005. John told Charles Richard told him he is going to die. Charles wondered why would Richard say something like that. Maybe he wondered, maybe he lied. But maybe he realized that Richard knows exactly what is going on. Maybe he remembered something from the past that we don't know yet. So he instructed Abbadon in pushing Locke as hard as he can. For John Locke to kill himself. There is always two sides of coin. I could chose to believe that Widmore is ! good and he wanted to help Locke or I could chose to believe he is bad and wanted to get rid of Locke. But if he kills himself he cannot be resurrected. Hawking sure wasn't worried that John Locke killed himself. She knew once he is back on the island, the Island will take care of the rest. So my question is did Richard hinted Charles via Locke what Charles needs to do? Maybe. That means they are working together. I cannot make up my mind about it because the writers sure want to make Charles a bad guy not loved by Alpert at all. Yet they were leading the Others for more then 30 years together. If Richard wanted him out he could've find the way. Was Benjamin Linus the way? I don't think so. I think that Benjamin saw an opportunity and took it like Charles said..'you have odessity to pretend you are the victim here. I know who you are boy. What you are. And everything you have you took it from me.' We will soon find out how is exactly that Benjamin took everything from Charl! es.
Lets go back to Charles Widmore and John Locke for a second.

When we get our answer why Richard doesn't age then maybe we will get an answer on this one. Maybe Charles is confused because he doesn't know anything about time traveling. But how is that possible. He was the leader of the Others. Sooner or later he will meet Sawyer and some of them. He will find out that they time traveled. Richard knows. Didn't he share anything with Charles. You see. Now I am back on the start. But wait. He knows about the O6. He knows they are his friends. He knows that John Locke was on that plane. Wait a minute. He was the one who put John Locke on that plane in a first place. He sent Locke on the walkabout. So he knew. Charles Widmore knew about Oceanic 815. He knew when and where it is gonna crash. If he knew all of that then He knew that John Locke will be a new leader and he put him in that plane. But it is not like Charles can se! e the future. Charles has an almanac :) He met survivors during some years on the island. He got an info. Him and Richard. If you have an information of the future in the past then you know where to go next. But he never knew that Ben is going to exile him. Why didn't he share that info with someone? With John or Desmond or whoever is gonna be on that island in the past. He knew the purge is going to happen. He instructed Daniel and Charlotte to shut the gas in The Tempest. Daniel has all the information on Dharma. Every map, every plan. Every hatch. Everything. Charles shared the info with him. Charles or Ellie. But Why shut the gas in the present if it is going to happen in the past? Daniel knew what is about to happen. He knew the island and survivors are just about to go back to the past. He tried to force Charlotte to get off. Miles too. He knew because Charles told him. He sent him there in the first place, no? And why put John Locke on the plane if you are about to s! end a freighter full of people to kill everyone on the island?! But if he wanted Locke dead he could've just killed him in Tunisia and everything would be over. If he really wanted Locke dead and Island for himself to rule again. Ben said he has man on the boat. That man was Michael. He also said that Michael provided him with the details about the people from the freighter. How? When? We know that the first time Michael talked to Ben was right after he tried to detonate the bomb. Ben left him a note NOT YET because he wanted to prove that he is better man the Widmore. That he will not kill innocent people. But at the end of the season we saw how Ben was better when he killed Keamy even if he didn't have to because he was already disabled... so let's go back to that talk. He said what he said and that Michael should go and destroy communication room. Disable communication with the outside world and disable the ship so it cant come closer to the island. Michale threw his cell over board. So how was he able to contact Ben? How was he able to give! him all the data? And let's not forget that Michael was just a deck hand on that ship. Ben got that info from someone else. Maybe there was an other man on that boat or maybe he got the info before it even took of. Miles said himself that half of the people on that freighter lie about something.
So who gave orders? Mathew Abbadon. He said: there were no survivors. Miles, Daniel, Frank and Charlotte had no idea about killing anyone. They didn't sigh up for that. Keamy was. And we were led to believe that everyone on that island would be killed right after Ben was captured. But Keamy's primary objective was Ben. Charles knew about the Orchid and he knew about the exit and that lead me to believe he is the next who will push that wheel. But how does Ben know where the wheel is, I mean the little Ben who will exile Charles? Was it really Ben who tricked him? And how does little Ben know what does FDW do and whats it for? Will someone within Dharma help him? All this questions are just about to be answered. I hope.
I often wondered why? Why would he sent the freighter now...why not sooner? Because he sent Locke on that flight. Because he knew this is it. He knew it is happening right now. They are about to flash back. So he is the one responsible for everything that happened in the past. The only possible thing I could think of is that he wanted Ben removed in order to stop past from happening. That is why he left The Orchid as a secondary protocol. He wanted to make sure that FDW is never pushed. What would happen if they were never in the past? Locke would never talk to Richard and he would never become a leader in the future. Ethan wouldn't be born. But most important thing Ben would never become WHAT he became. And Charles would probably stay on that island. Is that what he was trying to do? Probably. But now he failed. Now he needs his backup plan. Both Charles and Richard want Ben removed. That makes them friends? I have no idea. But this could be the answer to the question why C! harles never got back to the island? Because he believed there are things that could be changed. His past could be changed. And he can manipulate things better once he is of the island. Or maybe he simply cannot die of the island because he is one of them. Forever.
I want to say just one more thing.
Richard Alpert met Sawyer back in 1974. Sawyer never told him his name is James. As far as we know. But now in 1977 Richard knows his name. And the two of them seem to trust each other. So my guess is they had contact during these last 3 years. But the more important part is That Sawyer will not go back to past anymore. Further back in past from 1977. Why? Because if he did then Richard Alpert would know who Sawyer is the day they first met in 1974. There are 3 options.
1. Sawyer will go back in past and will not come across Richard Alpert at any point. Meaning his life in the past will be very short.
2. Sawyer will go further back in the past when Richard was not on the island. If that is possible.:)
