It's a bit of a political debate, but I saw the article recently posted on the idea that male centric episodes are higher rated. This went along from the recent poll asking why male episodes are more appealing.
My question is this. So?
We have the Oprah show, and Desperate Housewives. Those are obviously female driven. Am I out with a pitchfork demanding more male involvement and male centric themes. Nope. But an all male organization, like the boy scouts,,, well we can't have that. That would be unfair.
I don't remember Sex in the City catching flack for not having male centric characters. I don't see a big outcry over the George Lopez show or the Cosby Show. Why? It's because there was nothing with them. They are great shows.
But come on. Here we have Lost, with a male dominant twist and what do we get? We get outcry that women aren't equally portrayed. We get outcry that minorities in the show aren't equally portrayed.
Now I understand. Historically women and minorities have had a rough go. I have no denial over that. I get it. Completely.
But good lord. I'm getting sick of living in a world where the moment any demographic feels that something isn't entirely equal, that we have to call in the PC Police to solve it.
If you just look around, women hang out with women, racial groups hang out with others of the same group, religous groups are the same way. It is a fact of life.
But when it comes to tv shows, or other public groups we have to force a square peg in a round hole and make everything exactly even. WHY!!! Please please please, just stop worrying about this crap.
Lost is a great show. Underworld was a great movie (about women) Boys in the Hood was a great movie (about those of African Decent), Swingers was a great movie (about middle class white guys). But lost is evil, because it's not politcally correct enough.
You know what I'm going to do. The next airplane crash we have in this country, I'm going to fly out to it, and take a census. If the passengers on board do not represent an equal proportion of the diverse population in the country as a whole, I'm going to protest the airplane crash, and demand that we sacrafice enough social groups at the crash site in order for the casualties to be politically correct.
That would make about as much sense as all the bickering that goes on over whether Lost treats its female and minority characters fairly.Theory by Locke4God
