Jack will eventually become Jacob.
We know that from this point in the 70s (purge or no) that the island must move at least twice. Once from the Polar Bear found in Tunisia, and once from Charles Widmore. If it's possible that our heroes have already time traveled once, they will again. This could possibly send them further back to a time where, instead of Dharma folk, they become others before they were "others."
Jack, biblically, is short for Jacob. As important names are on this show, this does not appear to be random. Who is to say that JACK does not take on the role of Jacob throughout time influencing the history of the island. This would also explain why his father and sister now reside in the haunted cabin.
Jack has now become as spiritual as Locke, and will probably act on this if given the opportunity. We know Jacob's cabin was built by Horace, so maybe Jack sought refuge in it during the "incident" forever trapping him in a time traveling cabin that will exist in all times throughout history.
