i think that the incident isnt the orchid station where Hanso loses his arm on the fdw but when Desmond turns the failsafe key this is the reason that oceanic 815 crashes on the island pushing the button every 108 minutes was the crucial part. If Desmond hadnt of turned the key then 815 would not of crashed and the story would not of been told. Daniel told Desmond only he could change destiny when what he really meant was only Desmond can prolong lives but the future cant be changed ie Charlie. This is what should of happened. Desmond does not turn the failsafe key the hatch implodes and he dies, but 815 still goes down in the ocean and everyoneon the flight dies.the temple is the place where the 815 316 and freighter people that survived are now residing ie Jin Sun Hurley Sayid Miles Kate Sawyer & Ben and maybe one of the island rules are the cannot leave as this could have timeline consequenses all 30 yrs o! n from the incident all have lived there for 30 yrs but i think Ben being Ben escaped and interacted with people he shouldnt of to change he's timeline possibly Alex etc .. but has realized he cant... so is probobly trying to screw it up for everyone else Theory by Steve Sims
