Interesting episode!!!
Ben knows what its like to grow up without a mother, so why would he kill a child's mother and leave the child behind???? He would'nt!
So we learned a bit about Charles, and Ben. I think from the beginning, when Richard took Ben into the Temple, Charles was angry about not being consulted on this matter. Richard tells him "Its what Jacob wants for the Island" Charles, obviously could care less. He talks to Ben and I think from that moment he despised him regardless.
Is Charles telling Ben to do things against the Island & Jacob???
We see the scene where Ben is with a young Ethan, and is sent to kill Danielle. ( Sent by Charles) Ben learns of the baby Alex, and does not kill Danielle but takes Alex, back to the camp where Charles, storms off, after Ben and him argue that Ben should have killed "IT" he would not kill the child, and tells Charles to do it. Ben argues it is not what Jacob would want. I think Ben knows better, and Charles is setting him up to be punished. Widmore is well aware that Jacob or the island would not approve of killing a innocent child. This scares Charles, that Ben did not take his orders. After all Charles had no problem killing Alex later.
Charles eventually gets banned, and is taken by Submarine back to the real world. He has a child in the outside world, and has gone against the rules. Ben calls him out on it. Charles, will never live it down. Ben has not Obeyed him since he was a child. Ben is now the leader, or so it seems, and this bruises Charles, to the point where its all or nothing when it comes to Ben from now on! Ben will always be a boy to Charles, Like Captin Hook and Peter Pan! Charles could care less, about his daughter Penny, on the outside. He does not care should a child Die, so why is Penny any concern to him. This is why Penny has no realtionship with him.
Ben then could not kill Penny. Seeing she had a child, he could not do it.He knows what it is like to be a child without a mother, so why would he?
Charles is a bad man... Lied about Ben making him turn the donkey wheel, to John. When he was Banned. He only wants to find the island, to rid Ben for good. He can't stand the boy and its been obvious since the day he met him. Ben took away his leadership, made a coward out of Charles. And he knows the island won't take him back based on the lies he has told Ben in hopes the island would rid him. But the Island forgave Ben, which shows that Ben knows what is right, past included.
Therefore... When Charles told Locke, he had to bring them back. He lied. That was not what he was suppose to do. It has changed the rules and everything. Whatever Happened Happened, But that is the past. It happened! But what you can Change, you Can change. Which is why Charles told John he needs to go back. To change it all, and get rid of Ben for good! Theory by Rockstartara
