I think there is one logical assumption as to what Daniel is trying to do form what we saw in the season premiere:
turn the FDW
I myself am not sure of the reason why he believes he must do it, but nonetheless I think he will, which will send him to tunisia (but at what point in time? get to that later), and send Sun and Frank back to 1977.
I think it is possible also that the wheel turn could effect the 77' losties and maybe send them to another time once again, causing Jin and Sun to miss each other.
One of the reasons I think this theory might be accurate is the scene when Daniel is watching the news about the oceanic flight, crying.
This could be because he turned the wheel, and was sent to tunisia before the crash occured. When he saw the crash still happened, or just the fact he saw it by itself, he cried.
If this turns out to be true, then what does Daniel do once back on the real world? Of course this is severely speculative, but I do think Faraday will make some sort of big sacrifice at some point. Theory by AbsoluteTruth
