Could Annie be the daughter of Juliet? Could Carl be the daughter of Annie?
When adult Ben is attracted to Juliet, Juliet is told something like "you look just like her" whoever 'her' is...
I assume it is Annie. Been Still carries the dolls she made of them.
What better explanation for this than for her to be the child of Juliet? The time line is tricky here but I think it could be possible.
I assume Annie did not die in the Purge. Ben seemed only emotional about the death of Horace.
Everyone seems to be having babies on the island in the past just fine.
Also, I think Carl is the son of Ben and Annie. I think the birth of Carl kills Annie and Ben finds himself in the shoes of his father. We know at some point childbirth becomes a problem on the island and Carl seems to be the youngest of the Others! This would explain Ben not wanting Carl and Alex to be with each other.
There seems to be a Kill your biological father theme on the island. Ben and Carl are clearly at odds, much like Ben and his own father.
Fearing that history could repeat itself once more, Ben hides the fact that Carl is his child. With no opposition of parents, this gives Ben the freedom to lock Carl away doing the brain washing. The brain washing seems to be an effort of conformity on Ben's part. Which leads me to think Ben is afraid of Carl.Theory by WNGYPSY
