The things Charles Widmore mentioned to Locke in 5x7 Life and Death of JB got me thinking. Widmore claimed he was the leader of the others for about 30 years, then Ben tricked him off the island, probably by letting him use the Frozen Donkey Wheel.
We know that back in 1954, Widmore wasn't the leader yet. Since Ben became the leader after the purge in 1992, we can assume that Widmore's 30 year leadership period was probably from, let's say, 1962 till 1992.
That leaves us with one big question: When the hell was Penny born?!
She must be in her thirties in 2004-2008, so she couldn't be born after the purge obviously.
So...
A. Penny was conceived and/or born on the island.
B. Penny is not Widmore's biological daughter.
C. Widmore travelled back in time off the island.
I'll explain C. We know that Ben turned the FDW january 2005 and ended up in Tunesia october 2005. Locke turned the FDW only a few days after Ben, but ended up 3 years later in 2008!
I think the clue is in HOW you turn the wheel. Ben and Locke both pushed it clockwise, and Locke pushed it further than Ben did.
My conclusion: Widmore turned the wheel COUNTER-clockwise, so he ended up in the PAST!! That leaves enough time for Penny to be born, but one problem would be Charles' own age; he would be phisically even older than he already is in time, but maybe that has to do something with the fact that Richard does not age? Maybe Richard is actually from the future and you don't age when you're living in the past. Only until you catch up with your own timeline's date probably. Theory by Jack Bauer
