Over the seasons we have seen that the indigenous hostiles and the DHARMA Initiative don't get along. We ask ourselves why? Is it because DHARMA invited them self to the island without permission? Are they ruining and exploiting the island? Or is it just a case of beliefs?
As season 2 came to a close we saw the hieroglyphs flick up on the counter, it was later said that this means 'the Underworld' Now if you research the mythology of the Underworld there are many beliefs. The only thing they have in common is that it is about a wonderful and yet at the same time horrible place. A place of love and deception.
The two that shout out when you think Underworld are the Greek and Egyptian mythologies. The DHARMA came to the island holding the belief that there Underworld that they had discovered was the Underworld of the Greeks. This mythology holds the stories of Apollo and his bond with this Underworld. Like where they got the names of their stations from; The Swan got its name from the birth of Apollo (You may remember the chocolate bars that were in the hatch) when a group of Swans surrounded him the second he was born, the staff (healing facility) got its name from Apollo's staff that he brought everywhere with him, it had the ability to heal anybody who was sick. So on so fort we get the names of all the hatches. The thing i like the most is Cerberus, the beast of the island. The DHARMA refer to the smoke monster as Cerberus and in the Greek mythology Cerberus was a 3 headed dog that was the guardian of the Underworld.
Now the Hostiles view of their Underworld is Egyptian mythology. This includes the great gods of the Underworld and we have seen how they pay respect and worship them by building the statues all over the island. I know what your thinking, All over the island? But we've only seen one. But have we? We have seen in the second season the four toed statue and the question arose what happened to the rest of it? We were led to believe that the statue we saw in the 5th season is that very same statue but i don't think it is. There were 8 or 9 Egyptian gods and they all hold the Ankh and a staff in each hand (The Ankh is the necklace that Paul, Amy's husband was wearing in the 8th episode of season 5), and the god we saw in the 5th season is most likely Horus or Anibus. You may remember these gods because they have falcon and dogs heads. The statue that we saw in season 2, must be the goddess Isis, she was the goddess of fertility. I think that she is the only statue that was taken d! own simply because the DHARMA taught that it bared bad look from the islands rightful owners because they had the fertility problems. The leader and owner of the Underworld was Osiris, the wife of Isis and father to Horus and Set, and ironically he was the god of the Afterlife and the god of Ressurection. We know that Christian and Locke came back alive on the island because it has these unnatural qualities. There was also various Temples of resting places and places of Refuge for it's inhabitants.
Sounds like our island doesn't it?
Now with that said we also know that a war is coming, as Widmore tells us. Now DHARMA and the Hostiles are still on the island because we went back in time and the Hostiles are going to kill them in a couple of years, the question is, is this the war he was talking about and what can Locke do to stop it?
I'm sure the Islands rightful leader will sort that out Theory by Harford93
