So I wanted to bounce this off you, and I'll start with a fairly easy assumption.
There have been a lot of hints at a Dharma resurgence in the present. Tell me if I'm way off on that, but I think most might consider it a probability at this point. Piere Chang insisted on it as a necessity, and along with other hints, it really really seems like that it highly likely.
From there, I'll consider the assumption along side the likely end results of our character arcs.
So Dharma must be reconstituted. Who leads it, but our born leader Jack? Jack comes to be the leader by learning about Dharma in the past. He got to the past by accepting his fate through influence from Locke. Locke of course influenced Jack through direction from Ben, Christian, Richard, and Widmore, all of whom claim to speak for the Island.
To be able to reconstitue Dharma in the present Jack must get there. That makes Jin's purpose that of being a lure for sun in the future, which makes Sun's purpose to bring them back.
The rest I'll keep very short in that Dharma is solving a problem. Richard wasn't capable of dealing with it, him being old and unaccustomed to technology, and so Ben was brought in by the Island as a liason to Dharma. Ben becomes the island's main contact but is longing for attention and power and so he imprisons the island's good influence in Jacob's cabin, and convinces Richard the Island now wants Dharma purged. Widmore was the only one who realized Dharma's importance and Ben removed him consolidating his power. Widmore then uses the rest of his life influencing the arrival of the Losties and the chain reaction noted in the previous 3 paragraphs.
Ben doesn't realize the true importance of Dharma however, neither does Richard nor Locke. Widmore doesn't either but knows they are necessary having been brought by the island, but still Ben will steal Locke and use him to lead the Hostiles in the present. Jack will come back and attempt to rebuild Dharma. Christian, now knowing that Jack is ready will finally come to him and lead him to Jacob. Jack will free him at last, Jacob will go to Richard, Richard will undermine Ben, and Dharma will be reborn in time to complete its work, which is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
To prevent the island or perhaps the world from reaching the end of the record.
You see, the island does have a type of sentience. Just as a human brain is made of nerves and runs on electricity of sorts, the island's immense power allows it a sort of self awareness. It also allows it to influence people in a psychic manner along with the ability to create a mini time loop that allows into the spin a few hours away from the present and back around, making it hard to find. But this spinning is always centered on the present.
Because of this power the Island was eventually able to forsee an end. Knowing the hostiles, native protectors it brought on centuries before, were not capbable of dealing with this end, it had them create the Donkey wheel at its power source that would enhance this power enough to send it farther into the past than it could send itself, giving it enough time to learn how to fix or avoid the end that it saw coming. The 2nd time around it brought in Dharma to solve this problem.
The wheel was turned for the first time sometime after 2007 (and probably much later) whereabout the end was going to take place, sending it back to the age of the Black Rock, where the ship came to crash on the island. This allowed it to makes ties to Alvar Hanso who would fund the Military and Dharma explorations of the Island, thereby giving the Island what it needed to fix the problem.
The one who turned the wheel so near to the end, lept forward in time just as Ben and Locke have upon turning the wheel and was left in a future that did not yet exist, leaving them in a corporeal form we know as Jacob. Jacob, not living in any real time can only be channeled by the good force of the island, and as stated before both were imprissoned by Ben, who did not fully understand the circumstances, and still doesn't.
This makes the dark force of the island the smoke monster.
Sawyer will get to keep his happy life with Juliet as a New Dharma park ranger, and Kate will wind up back with Jack once everything is sorted out.
Aaron I have to believe will have some tie to Jacob, which is why Aaron had to be raised by Claire and her good influence so that Jacob would choose to sacrafice himself by turning the wheel for the first time. This time Jacob will have to make a similar sacrafice, as a sort of course correcting, so that a paradox does not occur with what happened originally. Jacob will leap the island into the newly created future.
Once they correct the end, they will move into the new future, and Jacob will be fully freed now that this future exists. So what is the end that needed to be fixed?
It's the end of time, at least for the island. But I almost have to say that it's the explosion of Jughead. What in the hell else was it introduced for?Theory by Locke4God
