Firstly Sun and Frank intrigue me upon returning to the main island. When are they? Personally i'm open to both ideas that either they are in 2007 and the future is now different because of past events occuring differently. This is why the barracks are full of dharma logos and details, pictures etc. OR upon going back to the main island they themselves have gone back in time, but to when ? Sometime inbetween the purge and the others inhabiting the barracks, personally im leaning to the fact that Sun and Frank are in 2007 and the barracks look different because things happened differently to what we once knew. We didnt see no flashes or anything so id think they are in 2007/8 still.
I also am thinking at this point in time, that the LOSTIES could have caused the war between the hostiles and the Dhama Initiative. Sayid being caught could be the start of many troubles to come between the hostiles and DI.
Also the incident could be centered around the LOSTIES again, causing hurley being needed to recorded the numbers for the transmission. The numbers which would later haunt him due to his use of them.
There are many ideas and reasons for things to come, but early on ( without much to go off ). I'm guessing the losties cause alot of the issues surrounding the Dharma initiative and Hostiles. They also somehow create or have a big involvement in the incident which causes more chaos to the DI and possibly the hostiles.
I think however at some stage things will change, some of these things that are happening possibly did happen... ( or is course correction ) and these changes will alter the future, leaving sun and frank in a remarkedly different 2007/8. However IF the losties were in the past in the initiative, based on the whatever happened happened theory, then something had to have happened for them to disappear ( and perhaps rejoin their proper timeline )... unless they die in the purge?
For everything i think of, there is a counter arguement.
I thought that things will change because Desmond saved Charlie, causing widmore to find the island making ben move the island. This then resulted in time skips and also the 06 leaving, all of which shouldnt have happened. Locke restabilising the island in 1977 and helping bring back the O6, again none of this should have happened its just a result of desmonds one action. Which then will cause the future ( from 1977 ) to be different, meaning sun and frank seeing the barracks in 2007 much differently.
HOwever this theory then stops the theory of the losties causing the issues between the hostiles and dharma and hurley recording the numbers which would have been a nice twist, that they caused some of these things we've been wanting to know about, because If this happens then they were MEANT TO BE THERE and do this, as in 2004 we saw the results of their actions in 1977, which then shouldnt change the future ( sun and frank in 2007/2008 ) unless something else happens?
Maybe the game changer DESMOND arrives and this causes the changes to the future?
SO far ive completely mindspun myself, as i sure i have you guys. To be honest i dont think we're meant to know, we're only meant to speculate. We keep getting enough information to make so many different ideas right but not... I guess we'll have to wait patiently to find out :(
