This is my first theory so please be gentle!
So from what we saw at the start of LaFleur, a lot of people have been guessing that the statue is of egyptian origin. And I agree. But I have a concern. We all know that ABC rate Lost as their biggest player, so one can only assume that the network would be stressing to Cuse and Lindelof to cater for not only the die hard fans, but also to the general audience.
Now lets try and be hypothetical. Say sometime in Season 5 or Season 6, the Statue is revisited. We finally get a full glimpse of the Statue in all its' glory. The camera zooms in and we see a Egyptian God or Goddess. Us die hard fans would give ourselves a nice little pat on the back, but what about the general audience? Do you think they'll be underwhelmed or overwhelmed? I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that they'll be indifferent. This is one of the biggest mysteries of Lost. Even people I know who aren't as avid a fan as me ask me what is the Statue all about. So it is something that both hardcore fans and the general audience have a great interest in. That's why I think when we finally see the face of the statue, it will have the body of an Egyptian Goddess, but the face of a character.
Who do I think the Goddess is? Isis, the Goddess of motherhood and fertility. And whose face will be on the statue? Juliet. We can't say with confidence whether the statue is from the past or the future. And think about it, in 1977 Juliet delivered a baby on the island, against the wishes of the doctor who said that all pregnant women give birth off the Island. So one can only assume that the problems in terms of fertility on present day island were also problems in the 70's. The Others will find out about Juliet's feat and will see her as the second coming of the Goddess of Isis, and will erect the statue in her honour. I think in the forthcoming episodes Richard and co. (70's) will show a great interest in making contact with Juliet.
I hope this has made sense! Theory by Matt Elliott
