My investigation of the folowing subjects have lead me on a most elightening experience. Much of what will follow will veer wildly, only to cross-reference later with other interesting Lost/Egyptian tie-ins. Enjoy the eye-opening journey.
We will first examine the possibility that cloud monster is Chronos.
In Greek mythology, Chronos in pre-Socratic philosophical works is said to be the personification of time. His name actually means "time," and is alternatively spelled Khronos (transliteration of the Greek) or Chronus (Latin version). Not to be confused with Cronus, a Titan.
Chronos was imagined as an incorporeal god. Serpentine in form, with three heads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (no wonder the Dharmites thought to call him Cerberus.)

I am skeptical that Smokey is a god, though possibly the substance of the myth that followed. Still I am not discounting his mythological god status. There is much to support such a claim. But, I do see the Black Cloud as a creature that transcends time and that he is ultimately causing the primary time fluctuations with the island, whether through his nature or alchemy.
Also, consider his movements as they relate to an incorporeal snake. He raises his head like a cobra to Eko upon their first meeting. He treads along the ground, but cannot jump or fly over the Dharma compound's sonic fence. He constricts his tail around the Frenchman's arm and pulls it off.
But less us explore the god myth a bit more.
The moon seems to have been the earliest measurement of time. The word "moon" probably comes from a sanskrit word meaning "measurer" The Greeks personified time as Chronos*, who wielded a crescent sickle or scythe. The Egyptian god of time was Thoth, who was also a moon god.
Both Chronos and Thoth are gods of the moon. It is important to understand that the moon was used to keep time in these ancient worlds as well as in many, many other ancient societies. Hence, the moon is time and both Chronos and Thoth are the gods of time.
So, I began to explore the possibility that these two mythological gods are somewhat one god, as it concerns the myth of Lostia. One thing about Egyptian gods; they are interrelated with greek gods, unlike the Roman gods which are basically the Greek gods renamed.
Also, the myths vary a bit. In the following Chronos gives Thoth rulership.

This lead me to a deeper study of Thoth.
However, before I delve into Thoth and his multiple connections to Lost, I think it is important to clarify the Egyptian influence on the island of Lostia. (First, tell me Richard does not look like an ancient Egyptian.)
Scientists believe that Egyptians traveled to and did trade with Easter Island in the South Pacific. Look at a map of the Pacific and see how relatively close Easter Island is to Lostia. The stone masonry on Easter Island is linked by scientists to Egyptian stone masonry. Is this why we have Egyptian hieroglyphs all over the island? There were also other runes on the island, perhaps from the Rapa-Nui, inhabitants of Easter island or perhaps another trade island with the Egyptians. Okay, some of you are saying that it was impossible for the Egyptians to travel as far as the South Pacific. I would say see the famous Kon-tiki Expedition, where they proved such a feat was, indeed, possible using a reproduction of an ancient Egyptian sailing craft. Hence, Richard may be an ancient Egyptian and the ruins on Lostia are the remains of an Egyptian settlement..
Masonry, Egyptian masonry is the foundation of the Illuminati via the Masons. In a prior episode I was struck by Juliet's statement on the use of latin by all the Others and that it's the language of the "Enlightened." You might as well just say the Illuminati, because that's what Illuminati means in Latin, " the enlightened." But, I will get back to stone masonry and the Illuminati later. Back to Thoth.

The name Thoth means 'Thought' and 'Time'. Thoth was the master architect who created the blueprint of our reality based on the patterns of sacred geometry or 12 around 1.

Thoth was the 'One who Made Calculations Concerning the Heavens, the Stars and the Earth', the 'Reckoner of Times and of Seasons', the one who 'Measured out the Heavens and Planned the Earth'. Thus, he could have reversed the stars in the heavens of Lostia.
The egyptians were obsessed with longevity of life -- Richard -- and immortality
Thoth gives basic recommendations for initial harmonization of the chakra system. For fulfilling just these recommendations He promises health and longevity.
Myth is so bizarre, especially amongst the gods. The following depicts the incarnations of the god, Thoth, into humans. Oddly enough, his first incarnation is as the priest-king of Atlantis as revealed in the Emerald Tablets.

The history of the tablets translated in the following pages is strange and beyond the belief of modern scientists. Their antiquity is stupendous, dating back some 36,000 years B.C. Atlantean Crystals
From the Akashic Repository of Thoth is given the following information on "Atlantean Crystals" (as viewed through the akashic perception of Maia Christianne).
What is being referred to here as "Atlantean Crystals" are the following:
1) implanted crystals - These are crystals brought from Atlantis and physically implanted into the earth at various locations, usually upon power nodes. During the age of Atlantis (especially in the latter days of is existence) most of these crystals were transported to other sacred areas. These "star codes" are the original star programs contained in the earth’s field from its creation out of "stardust." While the planet holds this cosmic stuff at its center, so humanity formulates the "codes" of creation from it...for they are the "Elohim" of the next planetary cycle. The Atlanteans as a culture, held these codes in a specific balance for the planet. Hermes Trismegistus received the name "Trismegistus," meaning "Thrice Great," is derived from statements both in the The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus, that he knows the three parts of the wisdom of the whole universe.

Probably the only constant in all these legends is what the Emerald Tablet looked like. It is always described as a rectangular green plaque with bas-relief lettering in a strange alphabet similar to ancient Phoenician. It is made of emerald or green crystal, and the workmanship is exquisite.

This next part of the previous link I note because of the "Pillars" or "columns" mentioned. We have seen a great pillar in Lost in the ruin area and Cooper was tied to it. This may or may not be of Lost significance, but I thought it needed mentioning.
Just before the Great Flood, Thoth preserved the ancient wisdom by inscribing two great pillars and hiding sacred objects and scrolls inside them. Egyptian holy books refer to these sacred pillars, one located in Heliopolis and the other in Thebes, as the "Pillars of the Gods of the Dawning Light." They were moved to a third temple where they later became known as the two "Pillars of Hermes."
These splendorous columns are mentioned by numerous credible sources down through history. The Greek legislator, Solon, saw them and noted that they memorialized the destruction of Atlantis.

Caduceus of Thoth
The Caduceus was originally a healing tool employed in the temples of Atlantis and Egypt. It had been brought into this realm by the Illumined Master, Thoth. The wings on the Caduceus are symbolic of the liberation of consciousness from the warp and weave of dual systems, once it moves up the staff between the serpents and further, beyond their reach. The Caduceus additionally represents the DNA helix, which contains the crystalline frequency of all morphogenetic fields.
Morphogenetic fields connect all living being through a constant exchange of knowledge in the Language of Light. There is also a deeper symbology to the Caduceus, and that is the Christed Consciousness of the mind, once it is fully illumined through the heart which is the true Seat of the Soul. The actual "Thoth Staff" or "Paradma" contained only the heads of the serpents. This allowed the staff itself to be handled more easily and to have sent within it more specifically placed, certain stones and power symbols. The "wings" on the original staff acted somewhat like a satellite dish, as receptors for the energies of the body that the Paradma was engaging.
And now a step back. There has been much noted in Lost about the Wiz of Oz. Many Lost characters are directly from this noted movie and literary work. How can you think of the Wiz without reviewing the Emerald City? In as much as the Emerald Tablets were said to be made of Emerald or emerald green crystal, I naturally thought of the Emerald City and how it relates to Lost.

The great -- and powerful -- Oz... is my favorite. Many have speculated that L. Frank Baum created Oz from Shelly's poem. His own file cabinet O - Z explanation seems less credible. It was easier to believe OZYMANDIAS was the source and may have subconsciously influenced his choice However, some conspiracy theorists claim OZYMANDIAS was the intended reference and that Baum was somehow linked to the Illuminati.
Also, Ramesses the Great is widely attributed as the Pharaoh that presided over Egypt during the Exodus!!! Of course everyone here remembers the 2 part episode, "Exodus."

Following the yellow brick road is an allusion to her personal struggle up the "ladder of ascension". The Emerald City is "The Great White Brotherhood"or the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor. Frank also wrote a book entitled, The Laughing Dragon of OZ. The Green Dragon is a symbol of the element of Aether, Draco the Serpens. The Great Cycle or Ourabouras. The horizon The serpent chaising the sun. It could also be seen as the Emerald Tablet of Thoth or Hermes Trismegisus.
So, what am I trying to say with all of this research? Not exactly sure (lol). I only see the "dramatic" connections in Lost to Egyptian myth and legend. My speculation is simply that Smokey is something out of Egyptian Myth. He may be a god. T8 reminded me that smokey had only 4 digits when he killed Eko, which matches up with the 4- toed statue. Statues of that size were typically dedicated to the gods in ancient times. Smokey may be Chronos or the sourse of such myth. I am also thinking that Smokey is awaiting a new incarnation. Lost is all about re-incarnation. So, why not for Smokey? I am also entertaining the idea that Richard is an incarnation of Thoth, even as he has incarnated thrice before; one a Greek god and the other Egyptian. Hence his longevity of life. Then again, he may be simply a true devotee of Thoth. Thoth has said that what he has attained, even we can attain.
The more I think about it, the more I see Richard as Thoth, especially in the leadership role. After all, how is it that Ben, Whidmore and Locke are all the leaders of the Others? What, then is Richard's position amongst the tribe? As an incarnated priest-god it makes sense that a bestowed immortal would assign leadership roles from amongst those that are under his rule, so that they may rule in his stead once he has returned to his primordial home. That is how Thoth acted in other incarnations, ruling from the spiritual aspect as priest-sage, inspiring those that follow to act in accordance with his directives. He assigns leaders, yet is one, deligates authority, yet is the authority. How else can we account for his status?

Hermetic Mythology relates to Hermes Trismegistus, or the works ascribed to him, deal with the occult sciences, especially alchemy and magic - The Emerald Tablets of Tablets of Thoth the Atlantean which takes us to Atlantis -- the theory of Crustal Displacement -- Helena Blavatsky -- Edgar Cayce and endless others who equate the end of time, zero point with the rise of Atlantis as the poles shift, and Earth Changes take hold as prophesized at the 'end of time'.
Can it be that the island influences the Earth's poles to such a degree, through the magnetic poles, that it is causing a major shift in its axis?
One other point of interest. Chronos and Thoth are both gods of the moon. Apollo is the god of the sun. Sun, moon; is there a connection?
Since I've brought up Apollo, the sun, I should mention the powerful electromagnetic influence the Sun has over the Earth. According to a mind-blowing electromagnetic scientist by the name of Coterell, it also influences the menstruel cycle. (fertility issues?) Most people think it's the moon. But, they are probably unaware that a Sun day is 28 Earth days. Virtually the same as the cycles of the moon. After all, how does a dead and lifeless orb influence the Earth and its inhabitants? It's mass is too small and too far away. So, consider for a moment that it is the Sun doing all the work. Consider the Aurora Borealis. It is a phenomenon driven by electromagnetic waves from the sun bouncing off Earth's upper atmosphere. It happens at both the northern and southern magnetic poles, thought it is call different names in each region.

Ultimately, my theory is that the island absorbs EM directly from the Sun (Apollo), hence it's enormous buildup and need for regulated expulsion (Swan hatch). Black rock (Atlantean-type) crystals draw in these energies and transform them into abundant energy. Some of this electromagnetic energy is utilized in time manipulation and some is used for creating wormholes for the purpose of teleportation. Wormholes take absolutely enormous amounts of energy by any calculation. I imagine there are other uses as well. Thoth is known for both knowledge of Atlantean crystals and the ability to control electromagnetism, as my previously linked posts in this thread point out. Thus the moon (Thoth/Chronos) and the Sun (Apollo) are working in conjunction

This lead me to a deeper study of Thoth.
However, before I delve into Thoth and his multiple connections to Lost, I think it is important to clarify the Egyptian influence on the island of Lostia. (First, tell me Richard does not look like an ancient Egyptian.)
Scientists believe that Egyptians traveled to and did trade with Easter Island in the South Pacific. Look at a map of the Pacific and see how relatively close Easter Island is to Lostia. The stone masonry on Easter Island is linked by scientists to Egyptian stone masonry. Is this why we have Egyptian hieroglyphs all over the island? There were also other runes on the island, perhaps from the Rapa-Nui, inhabitants of Easter island or perhaps another trade island with the Egyptians. Okay, some of you are saying that it was impossible for the Egyptians to travel as far as the South Pacific. I would say see the famous Kon-tiki Expedition, where they proved such a feat was, indeed, possible using a reproduction of an ancient Egyptian sailing craft. Hence, Richard may be an ancient Egyptian and the ruins on Lostia are the remains of an Egyptian settlement..
Masonry, Egyptian masonry is the foundation of the Illuminati via the Masons. In a prior episode I was struck by Juliet's statement on the use of latin by all the Others and that it's the language of the "Enlightened." You might as well just say the Illuminati, because that's what Illuminati means in Latin, " the enlightened." But, I will get back to stone masonry and the Illuminati later. Back to Thoth.

The name Thoth means 'Thought' and 'Time'. Thoth was the master architect who created the blueprint of our reality based on the patterns of sacred geometry or 12 around 1.

The history of the tablets translated in the following pages is strange and beyond the belief of modern scientists. Their antiquity is stupendous, dating back some 36,000 years B.C. The writer is Thoth, an Atlantean Priest-King, who founded a colony in ancient Egypt after the sinking of the mother country.

Atlantean Crystals
From the Akashic Repository of Thoth is given the following information on "Atlantean Crystals" (as viewed through the akashic perception of Maia Christianne).
What is being referred to here as "Atlantean Crystals" are the following:
1) implanted crystals - These are crystals brought from Atlantis and physically implanted into the earth at various locations, usually upon power nodes. During the age of Atlantis (especially in the latter days of is existence) most of these crystals were transported to other sacred areas. The crystals contained the original star codes which Atlantis was holding for the planet. (More on the "star codes" later in this article.)
2) transference crystals - Crystals still within the veins of the earth. They have had the light codes of Atlantis transferred into them by the Earth Guardians of Atlantis. These "star codes" are the original star programs contained in the earth’s field from its creation out of "stardust." Probably the only constant in all these legends is what the Emerald Tablet looked like. It is always described as a rectangular green plaque with bas-relief lettering in a strange alphabet similar to ancient Phoenician. It is made of emerald or green crystal, and the workmanship is exquisite.

This next part of the previous link I note because of the "Pillars" or "columns" mentioned. We have seen a great pillar in Lost in the ruin area and Cooper was tied to it. This may or may not be of Lost significance, but I thought it needed mentioning.
Just before the Great Flood, Thoth preserved the ancient wisdom by inscribing two great pillars and hiding sacred objects and scrolls inside them. Egyptian holy books refer to these sacred pillars, one located in Heliopolis and the other in Thebes, as the "Pillars of the Gods of the Dawning Light." They were moved to a third temple where they later became known as the two "Pillars of Hermes."
These splendorous columns are mentioned by numerous credible sources down through history. The Greek legislator, Solon, saw them and noted that they memorialized the destruction of Atlantis.

Caduceus of Thoth
The Caduceus was originally a healing tool employed in the temples of Atlantis and Egypt. It had been brought into this realm by the Illumined Master, Thoth. The wings on the Caduceus are symbolic of the liberation of consciousness from the warp and weave of dual systems, once it moves up the staff between the serpents and further, beyond their reach. The Caduceus additionally represents the DNA helix, which contains the crystalline frequency of all morphogenetic fields.
Morphogenetic fields connect all living being through a constant exchange of knowledge in the Language of Light. There is also a deeper symbology to the Caduceus, and that is the Christed Consciousness of the mind, once it is fully illumined through the heart which is the true Seat of the Soul. The actual "Thoth Staff" or "Paradma" contained only the heads of the serpents. This allowed the staff itself to be handled more easily and to have sent within it more specifically placed, certain stones and power symbols. The "wings" on the original staff acted somewhat like a satellite dish, as receptors for the energies of the body that the Paradma was engaging.
And now a step back. There has been much noted in Lost about the Wiz of Oz. Many Lost characters are directly from this noted movie and literary work. How can you think of the Wiz without reviewing the Emerald City? In as much as the Emerald Tablets were said to be made of Emerald or emerald green crystal, I naturally thought of the Emerald City and how it relates to Lost.

The great -- and powerful -- Oz... is my favorite. Many have speculated that L. Frank Baum created Oz from Shelly's poem. His own file cabinet O - Z explanation seems less credible. It was easier to believe OZYMANDIAS was the source and may have subconsciously influenced his choice However, some conspiracy theorists claim OZYMANDIAS was the intended reference and that Baum was somehow linked to the Illuminati.
Also, Ramesses the Great is widely attributed as the Pharaoh that presided over Egypt during the Exodus!!! Of course everyone here remembers the 2 part episode, "Exodus."

Following the yellow brick road is an allusion to her personal struggle up the "ladder of ascension". The Emerald City is "The Great White Brotherhood"or the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor. Frank also wrote a book entitled, The Laughing Dragon of OZ. The Green Dragon is a symbol of the element of Aether, Draco the Serpens. The Great Cycle or Ourabouras. The horizon The serpent chaising the sun. It could also be seen as the Emerald Tablet of Thoth or Hermes Trismegisus.
So, what am I trying to say with all of this research? Not exactly sure (lol). I only see the "dramatic" connections in Lost to Egyptian myth and legend. My speculation is simply that Smokey is something out of Egyptian Myth. He may be a god. T8 reminded me that smokey had only 4 digits when he killed Eko, which matches up with the 4- toed statue. Statues of that size were typically dedicated to the gods in ancient times. Smokey may be Chronos or the sourse of such myth. I am also thinking that Smokey is awaiting a new incarnation. Lost is all about re-incarnation. So, why not for Smokey? I am also entertaining the idea that Richard is an incarnation of Thoth, even as he has incarnated thrice before; one a Greek god and the other Egyptian. Hence his longevity of life. Then again, he may be simply a true devotee of Thoth. Thoth has said that what he has attained, even we can attain.
The more I think about it, the more I see Richard as Thoth, especially in the leadership role. After all, how is it that Ben, Whidmore and Locke are all the leaders of the Others? What, then is Richard's position amongst the tribe? As an incarnated priest-god it makes sense that a bestowed immortal would assign leadership roles from amongst those that are under his rule, so that they may rule in his stead once he has returned to his primordial home. That is how Thoth acted in other incarnations, ruling from the spiritual aspect as priest-sage, inspiring those that follow to act in accordance with his directives. He assigns leaders, yet is one, deligates authority, yet is the authority. How else can we account for his status?

Hermetic Mythology relates to Hermes Trismegistus, or the works ascribed to him, deal with the occult sciences, especially alchemy and magic - The Emerald Tablets of Tablets of Thoth the Atlantean which takes us to Atlantis -- the theory of Crustal Displacement -- Helena Blavatsky -- Edgar Cayce and endless others who equate the end of time, zero point with the rise of Atlantis as the poles shift, and Earth Changes take hold as prophesized at the 'end of time'.
Can it be that the island influences the Earth's poles to such a degree, through the magnetic poles, that it is causing a major shift in its axis?
One other point of interest. Chronos and Thoth are both gods of the moon. Apollo is the god of the sun. Sun, moon; is there a connection?
Since I've brought up Apollo, the sun, I should mention the powerful electromagnetic influence the Sun has over the Earth. According to a mind-blowing electromagnetic scientist by the name of Coterell, it also influences the menstruel cycle. (fertility issues?) Most people think it's the moon. But, they are probably unaware that a Sun day is 28 Earth days. Virtually the same as the cycles of the moon. After all, how does a dead and lifeless orb influence the Earth and its inhabitants? It's mass is too small and too far away. So, consider for a moment that it is the Sun doing all the work. Consider the Aurora Borealis. It is a phenomenon driven by electromagnetic waves from the sun bouncing off Earth's upper atmosphere. It happens at both the northern and southern magnetic poles, thought it is call different names in each region.

Ultimately, my theory is that the island absorbs EM directly from the Sun (Apollo), hence it's enormous buildup and need for regulated expulsion (Swan hatch). Black rock (Atlantean-type) crystals draw in these energies and transform them into abundant energy. Some of this electromagnetic energy is utilized in time manipulation and some is used for creating wormholes for the purpose of teleportation. Wormholes take absolutely enormous amounts of energy by any calculation. I imagine there are other uses as well. Thoth is known for both knowledge of Atlantean crystals and the ability to control electromagnetism, as my previously linked posts in this thread point out. Thus the moon (Thoth/Chronos) and the Sun (Apollo) are working in conjunction
