The thing that is going through my mind is how things would play out if they never traveled through time. 'What happened happened' That means they were always in Dharma time. They were always in 1954. So what we are seeing here is Losties time line from one point-the crash of 815. But what if we look at time line of someone else. Ben for example. He came to the island around 1973/74. That's my guess. Cause he was 10 when he came and I assumed he was born in 1962/63. So he spent 1 or 2 years before Sawyer&Co came and join DI. Then he met Sawyer, Juliette and the rest. He had to. It's a small community. They lived together for at least 3 years. He had to remember them. He was not a kid. He was a teenager and his whole world changed after he came! to the island, and the constant fear of someone who can do you harm, the sirens, the guns, his dad... and every picture was 1000 times more vivid in his brain then in ! a brain of some ordinary teen living normal life in suburbia, trust me I know. So he remembered them (remembered just because I assume they will either die in the purge or they will leave the island and he wont).
And Sawyer he remembers was man called Jim La Fleur. But the minute he sees Sawyer he knows it is Jim or he looks just like him!
And to him Sawyer is ageless like Richard is to us.
So Ben made the list.
Jack Shepard
Hugo Reyes
Kate Austen
James Ford
Jack...he needed him to do the surgery. Hugo was there just to warn the rest of survivors. Kate was there to manipulate Jack. James? Why was James there?
'The only way to gain respect from a con man is to con him. James you are actually good. But we are much better.'
RICHARDs CASE
To us Richard seems ageless. To Losties too. To Ben as well. To Juliette.
But look at Sawyer. He looks the same to Richard in 70s and later on in 2004.
Richard knows that Locke travels in time. He went to see him. He saw Locke wasnt lying. Locke was born exactly when he said he will be. 30th of May 1956.
So he assumed Locke was the one. Special one. But 20 years later another surprise to our Richard. In a form of James Ford. He is time traveler too. Richard didn't see that one coming. Did he? So is James special too? And let's not forget who made Locke's dreams possible?
James Ford via Richard Alpert.
Richard knows lot more.
Jacob is someone who knows a lot. Let's look who knows crucial things about our losties too, now. It was his destiny. He never wanted that. But it happened. He wasn't the one who caused it. He never wanted that, quite opposite, like any special person. Mad and Special people are not aware of it. They just are.
The only one who saw it all.. who shot a polar bear in tropical jungle, lived on a beach, was on that raft, got captured by tail section people, spent some time in Swan, who got captured by Others, who was held in the cage, saw there is another smaller island, knows about the Black Rock, knows about the whispers, knows about the black smoke, about the pond, Orchid, the well, and the rope, who actually saw a 4 toe statue, who witnessed Swan exploding, knows about the Desmond and his boat, knows survivors of flight 815, knows what is down the Orchid station and knows what happens after you do something down there or let me rephrase it - knows how to start time skipping again, knows that the island can be moved and how, knows Horace and Richard, knows about the! jughead, met Eloise Hawking and Charles Widmore, knows how sonic fence works, knows Ben since he was a kid, knows how Dharma functions, probably knows its all secrets by now, he was a head of security, knows about subma! rine and the polar bears, knows when 815 will crash and who will be on it, knows who Christian Shepard is, he is the man who killed Anthony Cooper, he is the man who made Locke's leadership possible, Man who knows about the Looking Glass and that Charlie died down there, knows about Danielle and her distress call. Knows about the freighter and when it's coming. Who the man on the boat is. Knows about Walt and his imagination. Who is the only one who knows that Locke was in a wheelchair when they crashed and is able to walk now. Who knows who Locke father is. Man who knows lot more then Benjamin Linus will ever know. Man who knows Benjamin Linus since he was a little boy. Man who in his eyes never gets old. Man who is waiting for John Locke, who will at some point in the future replace Benjamin. James Ford. Man who knows it all and saw it with his own eyes. Maybe the Man Behind the Curtain to be.
I am positive there are more things Sawyer knows. When I think of them will write it down.
Locke was always on the wrong track. He knows it's his destiny. He knows that Jack suppose to help him. But how he knows that? Because others (survivors) treat Jack as their leader? Because he is a doctor? But what if he was wrong? If someone else was suppose to be the leader right from the start? But he was playing a part from the beginning just to avoid the leadership? I am thinking about Sawyer again. The hint was in the first season episode Confidence man. Shannon needed her asthma inhalers and everyone assumed Sawyer has them. He didn't have them but he decided to play the part. So he led them all along. That got him to the point where Said and Jack tortured him in the woods. And one of my favorite lines after he told Kate he never had the inhalers on him...
Kate: Are you serious?
Sawyer: Baby, I am tied to a tree in a jungle of mystery. I just got tortured by a damn spinal surgeon and a genuine Iraqi. Of course I'm serious.
So what if Locke needed a leader but he was searching for him in a wrong man, because the man who was suppose to be a leader was a real pain in the ass?
Next thing. Locke's dream about the Horace. Horace told him:
'Find me and you will find Jakob'
So Locke assumed that the map was the thing he was looking for. But how the map can help him if the cabin is moving around the island? Then the map is useless. Now read it again...
FIND ME AND YOU WILL FIND JAKOB
Now back to 1954. Locke said to Richard 'Jakob sent me' I can talk about on and on...It could be that Richard knew something was wrong. How someone from 1954 knows about the Jakob when Jakob doesn't exist. Well at least not yet. So if the man standing in front of him is the man who knows about the Jakob then he is the man from the future and he should talk to him. And he did. The way Richard looked at him was I don't know strange. I immediately started thinking WHAT IF JAKOB DIDN'T EXIST IN 1954. He is yet to come.
The vial of mystery surrounds Jakob for just one reason, his identity. When they reveal who Jakob is then the show is almost over.
Lets now talk about two scenes. Identical in my eyes. Well there are plenty identical scenes in Lost but I will use one or two.
Jughead and The Man behind the curtain
In both scenes we have Locke.
Talking infront of wide audience of Others.
Richard is present in both.
So in TMBTC Locke said that Ben is taking him to see Jacob.
The reaction of the Others was Noticeable!
Everyone looked at Ben and Locke. Ben especially. When Jacob was mentioned. Everyone stopped. They couldnt believe.
EVERYONE REACTED!
EVERYONE KNEW WHO JACOB IS. OR EVERYONE KNEW JACOB EXISTS.
Now Jughead.
Locke came into that camp like a lunatic screaming Richards name (and they were in a situation, US Army and Jughead anyone?) And when he said Jacob Sent Me none reacted. Richard looked at him but the rest of the Others....nothing...no reaction whatsoever.
They are Others, Jacob is 'their leader'. They got to know at least he exists. But none reacted at all. NO REACTION.
And when Richard said to Charles that he should put the gun down Charles couldn't believe that Richard trust this old bold man. He was angry. Why if Jacob sent him??? Why if Jacob is their leader the powerful one...Charles shouldn't question Jacob. Others never question Jacob. How can you not see it? It is between the lines. Writers are brilliant!
Now back to the Horace.
IF YOU FIND ME YOU WILL FIND JAKOB.
Locke found Horace but he didn't find the cabin. Cause cabin was what he was looking for. Because of that cabin he was blind. If he finds the cabin he has found Jakob. But that's not entirely true. He found the cabin but no Jakob. Just Christian and Claire in it. So what, Horace told him he will find Jakob if he finds him. HM. He didn't say 'Find me and you will find a map of the cabin where Jakob resides'. He said 'Find me and you will find Jakob' meaning Jakob is laying dead in that pit next to Horace.
Maybe he has a name La Fleur written on his Dharma suit.
He is the man who knows it all, man who's got Richards attention, man who changes names every once in a while. So if we assume it is Sawyer how can this situation evolve? Jakob is dead. He is spirit now. Trapped in that cabin surrounded with sand (white dust) and controlled by Ben. Or maybe he is not dead. Maybe he is trapped in time. Between time lines. Who knows.
Locke humiliates Ben in front of his people, in front of Mikhail and Richard (The man behind the curtain). Ben feels he is loosing power over his people. He is forced to take Locke to see Jakob before more damage is done. He is relieved after he learns that Locke is limitless to see and hear Jakob. But then a shocker. We all heard Jakob saying HELP ME. All except for Ben. So he had no chance then to kill Locke cause he threatened him. He will expose Ben to his people as a fraud who lost his ability of communicating with Jakob. If he ever was able. So Ben shot him. And left him in the same ditch. Just before he left he said him something like -hope he will help you now John.
The beginning of the episode was a hint to us, hint about Sawyer - what kind of man Sawyer is now! A leader, who is helping others, who is not selfish but yet he is a great man you just don't go and see, he summons you (the scene with two men afraid of knocking to his door or not knocking. They are afraid of HIM but yet they respect HIM).
Locke & Sawyer
Sawyer and Locke share one man in their lives. One man who made them the way they are. His name is Anthony Cooper. Locke needs to kill him in order to get his answers about the island and to become a leader. Sawyer needs to kill him in order to continue with his life. So basically they are both stuck in the past because of this one man. Locke is not able to do it cause he is not a hunter but then Richard hands him Sawyer file (who happens to know them both for ages now) and tells him that Sawyer is a man who can help him. Will get to that later. Then the two of them are pulling the strings once the flashes start. After Locke went Sawyer became the leader. And now Sawyer decided to put his life in Locke hands once again (first time he did after the freighter crew came) to put his faith in Locke(unlike Jack). And he will wait for him to come back. He will wait for him as long as it takes. Because Locke went down to the Orchid in order to help them. Juliette said he already hel! ped them. But Sawyer is still waiting for him. 3 years passed and he is waiting for Locke to come back and help him.
(Sawyer was the only man who actually showed respect to John. Only one. Jack, Kate, Sayid, Hurley...they suck. They couldn't care less about Sawyer and Co. And they made Locke feel like a s!it)
I don't know have you all noticed how they paying attention to Sawyer in this season (its hard to explain in English!) they are playing with his voice. First when he sees Jin 'Turn around slowly!' His voice is different but it's Sawyer we all know that. Then later when two men came to wake him up and he opens the door and asks them 'What?!' and then familiar 'Son of a bitch!'
Cabin Fever
Horace: You've got to find me John. And when you do you will find him.
Locke: Who?
Horace: Jacob. He's been waiting for you a real long time John.
La Fleur
Sawyer : Now we wait for Locke.
Juliette(or someone): For how long?
Sawyer: As long as it takes!
...............................
Jin: How long Sawyer?
Sawyer: As Long as it takes!
Horace: He's been waiting for you a real long time John!
Horace a close friend of Jim La Fleur who knew Jim is waiting and searching for his lost crew members. One in particular.
Mister John Locke.
So if anyone things that Ben actually talked to Jacob inside of that cabin..hm I don't think so.
As far as I can tell Ben talked to himself in that cabin. Monologue not dialog. Unlike Locke. When Locke talked to Jacob I could hear them both. But when Ben talked to him I could hear just Ben and the way he looked hm it looked fake. He only took Locke to that cabin to humiliate him again cause he never assumed that Locke is indeed special and actually CAN hear Jacob. What a surprise for little Ben. So what, you are gonna tell me that when Jacob talks to Locke Ben Cant hear him or when he talks to Ben Locke cant hear him. No, don't think so. Again a magic trick.
So John needs to help Jacob/Sawyer. IT IS HIS DESTINY. Jack needs to help John. HE IS SUPPOSE TO HELP HIM.
Jack is destined to save Sawyer.
When Said stabbed James he missed his artery (I don't know if I spelled it right, sorry) by millimeters and if Jack didn't stop the bleeding James would die.
If Jack didn't take out the bullet from James's shoulder James would die because of the infection.
If Jack didn't made a small incision in Ben's kidney James would be killed by Danny.
So Jack saved him at least 3 times. From very bad ending. But who else did Jack saved from almost positive death?
Marshal? No
Boon? No
Ana Lucia? No
Libby? No
Shannon? No
Charlie? Yes, enough to prolong his death for month or two.
I am not counting the day 1. It doesn't count. You see all these people above, they died. He couldn't help them. The only survivor he actually saved number of times was James. So you see he is destined to save him. That is Jack's path. And John's path is to make Jack a man of faith. So the two of them can save James when time comes. So they will be heroes. Cause they are the once who will save the day.
But John and Jack need to work together. And Ben is doing everything possible to sabotage their relationship (when he was in a hatch, he did the mind games on both of them...later on he just let John to blew up the sub who wasn't even functioning, just to piss of Jack. But Ben was clean here. he did nothing. It was John who blew it up, right? Sub was there for show. It never worked. None used it. Writers are brilliant. This is the moment when Jack start hating John).
Christian and Sawyer
About Christian and Sawyer. Once back in 2004 Sawyer was a spokesman for Christian. He was with Jack in the woods. And he asked him was his father a doctor too. Then he figured out. That it was Jack who is actually Christian's son, the one he wanted to phone. Sawyer encouraged him to do that. And later he told Jack how much his father loved him. And that he is proud of his son who is a great man, better than he will ever be. Remember? Jack crashed and started crying in front of James. So he was a spokesman for Christian now it is other way around.
And what do we know about Jacob?
We know he is a brilliant man.
We know he is not a man you just go to see - uninvited.
We know he is a man who summons you.
We know he is a good man.
And we know he is not forgiving man.
Well to me all this fits with sawyer character.
He is a brilliant man. Con man. Well read. Smart. Capable. Has a great sense of humor. His brain is brilliant.
He is not a man you just go and see, he summons you. It is a truth. He get easily pissed. He has a bad temper. That much is true. Some people are afraid of him. Afraid to knock on his door because it is late and they don't want to wake him up for no good reason.
Sawyer is a good man. It is clear. If you want I can put a list. :)
And we definitely know he is not a forgiving man. He waited for almost 30 years to kill Mr. Sawyer. 30 years. And let's not forget he killed Tom 'for taking the kid of the raft'. Not very forgiving.
The cabin
The reason why Locke couldn't find the cabin. It was because Sawyer was with him. Locke found the right place, sand was there yet cabin was gone. We said no paradoxes. Right. James asked : Who the hell is Jacob? And Ben looked at him...then said his name in a very strange manner, very slowly. But never mind that. The minute after that Hurley decides to stay with Locke. And next thing we know they found the cabin. I wonder if they still would if James stick around.
Next thing i found weird was Hurley. The scene when they are walking towards the barracks, right after they found out Charlie is dead. So they are walking through the woods and Hurley is depressed and Sawyer offered him his help but Hurley said no. Sawyer told him to shout if he needs help. Right after that Hurley got lost. He started shouting and the cabin appeared in front of him. He called Sawyer for help right?
Room 23
It also shows Sawyer completely confused. As if he is remembering. Will not go further with this.
So let me just say that Sawyer is growing as a character. More than any other. He is becoming something he was always suppose to be. He actually is inside. If it wasn't for Cooper he would be this fantastic human being he is becoming now. He is not selfish anymore. He even said: It doesn't matter what I want' for god sake. It is Sawyer we are talking about her. Locke always calls him James. And he is the only one who never ever called him Sawyer . Don't you think that is strange? James is a form of Jacob. In my language there is no name James. It is Jakob. James is the same as Jakob. Writer said they gave him name James for specific reasons. James Ford. Sawyer. Jim La Fleur. Who changed his name so many times? None.
Sawyer never acted like a leader. He was never into anything but by coincidence or fate he became the one. The one who gave ultimate sacrifice, in my book at least. When he jumped of a helicopter. I know Charlie's fans are gonna say that Charlie sacrifice was bigger. But that is not true. Cause Charlie knew he will die. Sawyer had no idea. And Charlie would never do that if it wasn't for Desmond and Claire. Sawyer jumped because of all of them and especially Hurley. He ended up being the one who knows lot more than Jack will ever or even Locke now. Cause Locke never worked in Dharma. Sawyer is a head of security. And Richard knows about him too, now. So he is equally special as Locke in Richards eyes.
There is this theme of 'long con' that goes through this show. And who is a con man here? And who was Jacob? A con man.
The Origin of the name
'His mother Rebekah named him this because, while his twin brother Esau was firstborn, Jacob came out of the womb hanging onto his heel.'
Heel??? Whose feet we are seeing every once in awhile? Not Jack's, not Locke's
'The English name "James" also comes from Iakobos; thus, it has the same meaning and can be considered an alternate translation of the same name'
I don't know anyone else by name James or close...except for Sawyer whose name writers were hiding until season finale. Season 1. And they said they had a reason for that. hm
His name means:
1. Supplanter..one who wrongfully or illegally seizes and holds the place of another (Jack anyone?)
2. Held by the heel
He was banished because he was a con man.
Sawyer was banished from Australia because he was a con man.
And if you remember Hurley's little con. He told Sawyer that they will banish him from the camp because of who he is, so he conned him into being nice for awhile.
So many things I can write here. And they all fit with none else than Sawyer.
I think I am done here. Thank you for reading.
