I would like to propose that the numbers are not cursed at all. They are in fact the lot number of the vaccine that is being developed to prevent an extinction event that is about to be unleashed against humanity. The test bed for this control immunization is taking place in a time loop where the scientists (namely Ben) are manipulating aspects to 'change the numbers' to a new lot that will prevent the unecessary deaths of MILLIONS of people once the vaccine is distributed.
Miles special ability to speak with the dead not only allows him to walk over graves and know how people died, but he also has intimate knowledge of how many people have died as a result of the future deployment of this vaccine. In this particular time loop for lot CR 4-81516-23 42, 3.2 Million People have either been killed by the vaccine or conversely, this lot actually SAVES only 3.2 million and this is why Ben looks incredulous at Miles demands becuase he was expecting better results!
We will soon see Jack and Juliet working side-by-side to develop this vaccine that will save the world.
