1. Whatever happened, happened:
Long answer short, BULLSHIT.
Why would both Ben and Widmore go through all the trouble they have been in order to lie, cheat and manipulate people to and from the Island if "whatever happened, happened" was true?? It wouldn't matter at all because of the whole course correction thing that we have BEEN LED TO BELIEVE IS TRUE. The fact that Ben and Widmore are getting ready for this upcoming war suggests that each of them THINKS there is a way to alter the past which will lead to a new future. But because they THINK something, that doesn't make it true... WRONG. We have already witnessed a change in the past....
2. Jin and the French connection:
There are HUGE differences between what we learned from Rousseau in the early seasons to what we witnessed happening this season. The reason for that is my boy Jin. He was not supposed to survive the freighter explosion but did, probably because the departure of the O6 changed the timeline. As such, he was part of the time flashes that sent him back to the 80's when the French group arrived. If you remember clearly, the French group decided to follow Jin into the jungle because they were going to JIN'S CAMP. Jin told them that he knew how to get to the radio tower from his own camp. Therefore, one can advance that they would not have bumped into Smokey at that time (and consequently found the Temple) if Jin hadn't been involved. Maybe they would have met Smokey a week later... who knows. The point is that from that moment on, the French group were living "something new" in the past. It doesn't seem to affect anything right now, cause all the parties involved are dead except ! for my boy Jin of course. And remember how Ben is extremely surprised to know that Jin is alive on the Island when Locke breaks the news... to me this is because in the original timeline, Jin was not supposed to make it.
What does all this imply.....
3. Season 5: CHANGING OF THE TIMELINE:
As I mentioned above, I believe that the departure of the O6 was the event that marked the initial change of the timeline. Locke's the man baby!! He has always been right to think the 815ers are on the Island for a purpose and that none were supposed to leave.I know so many of you will jump all over this saying, "But Faraday said blah blah blah"... but he himself tried to alter the past already by telling Charlotte as a young girl to never return to the Island. His attempt obviously failed but the point is HE TRIED. So yes, maybe he learned his lesson and won't try again BUT I DON"T THINK SO. The opening scene of season 5 was to show us that Faraday will attempt to get everyone back to the proper time by doing something at the Orchid station before it is completed. He was there hiding his face from Dr. Chang so as not to be noticed when he posed as a construction worker... Now why would Danny boy TRY ANYTHING if he believes "whatever happened, happened"? You see where I am g! oing with this.... he shouldn't have to TRY to get everyone back to the right time (or right song if you will).
That's all for now folks.
