Ok so I was thinking about some of the questions that people don't address being all "FTS" and time travel happy these days.
Has anyone actualy stopped to ponder why Jacob dislikes technology? Think about this:
Richard and the Others seem to always set up truces with the people who are not "supposed" to be there, and somehow the truce is broken, and the people are eradicated. What is this truce? To further make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, Richard and the others seem to have a fancy for taking over everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) from the people they eradicate. Houses, clothes, submarines, weapons... technology! Technology that we know that jacob hates.
Seriously, is this because the RULES possibly forbid an "other" from inventing, creating, or bringing technology to the mystical protective systems of the Island, or the temple, or to Jacob?
We already know Jacob abhors technology, especially flashlights. But why? because of these mysterious rules Ben and Widmore keep tossing around. Maybe the magic of the island can be disrupted or even stolen because of technology. What if one of the rules was "no created technology" The magic (pockets of exotic matter, or even ancient powerful artifacts) keeps the island safe; these are things like smokey, fdw, and the fact the island is shifted in time when it's not skipping around. What is so strikingly coincidental, is that we know Horace built the cabin, but Horace is dead and Jacob now resides there. Just like the same exact way Richard et. al likes to take over military outposts and DHARMA camps once the original inhabitants are dead as well. What if whoever created the island, made these rules, and these people nominated Jacob as their protector, and he vowed to uphold and enforce the "don't bring technology here" rule, just stick to our artifacts and magic... What if ! they did this because they wanted to protect the secrets of their magic from being utilized, falling into the wrong hands, or stolen by other people. Even furtherly coincidental was that Jacob has seemingly been "trapped" by someone using a non-technological method (volcano ash). Why? and by whom? Read below
Ever wonder if the truce we keep hearing about from Richard was "don't bring technology to our island?" or even better "If you bring technology, leave it within a certain perimeter and away from our temple, and our Jacob. Do not leave the perimeter or use your technology to exploit our island's special abilities for your own gain... or else we kill you"
So what if once each group (the army, and the DHARMA) violated the technology truce in a way. My guess is the army with it's trying to harness the mystical powers of the island for nuclear weapon technology and testing, and DHARMA knew the island was "time-shifted" and sought to exploit that mystical ability to learn how to time travel and send bunnies through time. What if both of those acts were condemnable by death, as ordered by the rule of the island to "use no foreign technology."
What if the motivation behind not having technology on a time travelling island was not just for "protecting the island's secrets" but it's also a paradox preventer. It would be like me going into the past with guns, and shooting the romans before they crucified Christ. Obviously taking technology into the past, will start a chain reaction, changing that technology then in the first century, and when I return to the future, I would have no motivation to take a now archaic piece of technology such as a gun into the past, and then don't, and BAM! I just threw the universe into a paradox. So perhaps the "magic" or artifacts of the island, the exotic matter, exist beyond the controls of time, are from another dimension, and are paradox free items. So many different ways to go here. The point is, what is the connection between the hatred of technology and Richard taking over the technology of those he kills off. Too coincidental to not be a backbone theme for this show
A crazy theory would be if Richard trapped Jacob with the ash because he wanted a new set of rules, he thought the old ways were archaic (which is why they aren't in the Temple, and living in the barracks/outpost) Why? I don't know the motivation. Maybe thousands of years without air conditioner is enough to make anyone want to rebel! Theory by gabriel87120
