Ok....we all remember "The Constant" episode (my all time fav tv episode!)...anyway, a few random ideas.
People seem to have forgotten or atleast stopped talking about Desmonds in-consciousness flashbacks/forwards since we saw physical time flashes.
What if Des isnt the only one this has happened to, and what if it is still happening now (Ben....Richard....Daniel?). Of course physical time skips for them are also entirely possible.
I think that the island (jacob?)'s problem right now is that it is without its constant, and its constant is, I believe, one or a group of our losties.
That person or group just being on the island may not be enough, they may also have to exist in certain distinct and maybe seperate times, in order to make contact with them at the right points (ala Des's phone call to Penny).
Des had to go back in time in order to contact Penny in the future in that episode.
Feasibly then, the Island would or could also then have to go back in time, perhaps in order to make contact with someone in the present/future. (our time skips)
So.....if it is true that the Island is trying to align with its constants/constant, than that means that there is someone or some people who must exist with it at every point in its flashes.
Of our time skips so far, the (known) major characters who have existed with the island in each flashing time period.
1. Sawyer
2. Juliet
3. Miles
4. Daneil
5. Richard Alpert
So with the information at hand we would determine one of these people, or all of them to be the Islands constant.
What does that even mean?
It means that whoever it is, is going to be on that island for a very very long time.
AND NOW MY OFFICIAL END GAME THEORY:
JACOB is the islands constant. Jacob could still be one of the people listed above. It could even be the other way around (the island is jacobs constant). What I think, is that Ben is keeping the two seperated some how (causing the time skips, along with the wheel) in order to achieve a goal that he has for himself that he can only accomplish by getting things done in various points in time.
I am not as confident as who jacob actually is, but at this point im going with Sawyer as he is the least set up to be jacob, and also has seen the most out of our losties.
