The future must change since Sayid knows young Ben. I think the writers gave us a clue when the photo of the Dharma groups was still hanging in the barracks. There is no way the Others would leave those pics up. Remember way back when Ben is captured by the Losties. He said he was Henry Gale and Sayid was the one to actually dig up the real Henry Gale. Said also tortured Ben in 2004 for info. Why would Sayid do this since he would already know exactly who Ben is from his time in 1977. The only way the events we see in 2004 would still happen is if there are separate timelines. Now I think this may be a possibility based on Charlottes death. Charlotte died sometime in the past when the island was jumping. Therefore how could she be seen in 2004 or so in Tunisia finding polar bears if she was already dead. Anyway, I know there are lots of arguments on other peoples theories as to whether there are separa! te timelines or if whatever happened happened is the truth. Right now I am going with separate timelines. If Ben is actually dead from Sayids shot, then that theory would be proven. If Ben survives, then the jury is still out.Theory by Nancy Drew
