Here is a theory that might explain the DHARMA food drops... What if DHARMA made one Food drop to a specific location and Time and the island keeps returning to that specific time period and location to always get restocked? Let me try to explain what I'm thinking...
I was looking at what Hawking said in 316 in the lamp post. She had stated the following:

So, I think that maybe DHARMA has some of the cheapest food drops ever. I'm not sure if this is going to make sense, or if it is just late and my brain is working overtime. But if the island is moving through time and space would it make sense that since the lamp post can determine specific windows that the island will always return to specific locations in time?
Now, according to the blast door map, the food drops occur every 6-8 months. Also, according to the Sri Lanka Video... [i]"…all of the support you will need, including regular medicine and food drops will be made in perpetuity." [/i]
How can Food drops continue forever? Because the island always returns to the exact position and time that the first drop occured...
Now we know that the island moves through space and time, but to the people on the island, time continues to flow... Unless the FDW is turned and the flow of the island is messed up. thus, the island doesn't seem to shift to the island dwellers, except occationally, you will get a freak rain storm or Night or morning will come quickly or Tides will quickly shift...
