I always thought our Losties would travel back to Dharma days, but I never questioned why. I'm still a firm believer that some, if not all of our Losties were born/raised on the island, but no one remembers it. Obviously Christian and Sun's father have some major influence and a lot of money, so it's not too far out that they once lived on the island too, but took their children away before The Purge. It's a long shot, I know, but here's where I'm going with this:
They crashed in 2004, which means some of them came home. The only person we've seen be born in Locke, so it's possible that other Losties could have been born on the island. Anyway, and this is a very bleak and dark climax, but what if they came back specifically for the reason to die during the purge?
"The universe has a way of course correcting itself." If they were meant to die in the purge, then coming back to Dharma days would certainly solidify that, no?
