Ben: Wake up Charles
Charles: I wonder when you are gonna show up. I see you are getting more sun.
Ben: Iraq is lovely this time of year. When did you start sleeping with the bottle of Scotch by your bed.
Charles: When the nightmares start. Did you come here to kill me Benjamin?
Ben: We both know I can't do that.
Charles:Then why are you here?
Ben: I am here, Charles, because you murdered my daughter.
Charles: Don't stand there looking at me with those horrible eyes of yours and lay the blame of that poor girl's death on me when we both know very well i didn't murder her at all, Benjamin. You did!
Ben: No that's not true.
Charles: Yes Benjamin, it is. You creaping in to my bedroom in the dead of night like a rat and you have odessity to pretend that you are the victim. I know who you are boy. What you are. And that everything you have you took from me. So once again I ask you WHY ARE YOU HERE?
Ben: I am here Charles to tell you that I am going to kill your daughter. Penelope is it? And once she is gone, once she is dead, then you will undersatand how I feel and you'll wish you hadn't change the rules.
Charles: You will never find her. That island is mine Benjamin. It always was. It will be again.
Ben: But you will never find it.
Charles: Then I suppose the hunt is on for both of us.
Ben: I suppose it is. Sleep tight Charles.
This scene is stuck in mind since I saw it for the first time and it was over a year ago. So I wanted to go back.
So lets go through this dialogue. But first lets go a little back to this particular scene. Ben enters Charles building. He is holding the gun. He is in the elevator. Then he takes out the key. Key to Charles apartament. I dont know if anyone found it strange but I have. How come he has the key to his flat? What does it mean? He controles Charles? Or they have a stronger conection we are not yet aware of. Their relation, there is something more to it.
I will point some things about Charles. Some details that puts him on that island although we know he is not there or is he?
1. Naomi has a photo of Penny and Des. And we know it is the only copy and the only person who has it is Desmond. And he carries it with him all the time, and he is on the island, right? And we know Charles hired Naomi so how come Charles have a copy of it?
2. Charles knows Ben shot Locke (I didnt try to kill you unlike him). How? How he knows. Only people on the island knew that. Ben, Sawyer, Hurley, Claire, Alex, Karl, Danielle and Walt(well Walt or a spirit of someone else).
3. He knew Alex was killed and under what circumstances. How could he if he wasnt there and there was none alive (from the freighter) who could tell him after whole island thing.
This could mean two things.
1. He is on the island
2. He has someone on the island, a spy.
I tend to believe he is on the island. Yet not. Like half off half on. Similar to Walt. Or the same.
'WHEN THE NIGHTMARES START'
He seemed pretty weared out in this scene, exausted. Because of bad dreams. Because he is trapped somewhere in between and is not able to control it. I think it is killing him. Cause he is able to see but not act. He has no control whatsoever. And Charles cannot stand it. Or maybe I am wrong. Maybe he is in pain.
'I see you are getting more sun.'
What a strange remark. He sees a man he sent a freighter loaded with people with guns just to extract him and now when he sees him first thing he says 'I see you are getting more sun'. And then I go back to Daniel and his remark on the 'strange angle of light' on the island as if it wasnt real or it just cannot be at that angle. I am not the scientist but daniel knows better. I am here just to point things out and conect the dots. So maybe this means he noticed he is away from 'island sun' and back to the 'real sun' but what this means? That island is not under our Sun. Or something is wrong with the island (like always) and its position, the angle of the rays falling down. But what if we imagine that the island is a snow globe surrounded with somekind of layers. And whatever comes in cannot come out. Well we already know thats the case. it cannot go out unless under certain circumstances. But what if we have a snow globe and Sun above it. What happens to the sun rays? Do th! ey penetrate? Or no? If they do then is the angle the same like in normal enviroment? I dont think so.
Lets move on. I am done with the nightmares. So lets move to the part 'cannot kill you'. Whats up with that? I talked a bit in my theory 'Charles Widmore, Richard Alpert and Benjamin Linus' I said:
'Why he cannot kill him? I can think of 3 reasons.
1. He is already dead.
2. Island wont let him.
3. They are in a time loop and whatever happened happened. '
And I am still not closer to the solution of this mistery. The only thing I could think of is that Charles cannot die if he is off the island.
The Dharma Initiative and The Others.
I think I finally figured it out. The Others are not the Others. They are Dharma. 'Or whatever is left of them' (Jack; Tale of Two Cities.) Follow me on this. It buged me for a while. What is the link between them all? What is wrong there? But then it hit me. If Richard is an other then how come he doesnt live in Otherville? We never saw him in the barracks except for once, no twice, back in 1974. And then later on in 1992 when purge happened. So 'the remains' of Dharma are living in Otherville. They are dressed nice, like common people, they use 'other' close when they disguise themselves, right? But remember the episode when Said and Kate help Richard save Ben from Keamy. The real Others are dressed like Others usually are (La Fleur). No disguise. Just them in their normal cloths. So what I think happened. It is absolutely imposible that just one kid was responisble for 'take over'of DI. It was a form of revolution. Dharma divided in two. Once who were sick of how things ! were run. With Ben as their leader or 'comunication' officer, the one, THE ONLY ONE who talked to Richard. Wait a minute wasn't he THE ONLY ONE WHO talked to Jacob? I am confused. Heh. So now we have our castaways there too. Whose side will they land on? Could this be the war they were talking about? Not war between Others and DI. War within DI. Divide and rule. The golden rule. That is something Ben often did with Jack and Locke. Divide and rule. So where this puts Widmore. I believe Widmore is born on the island. I believe people born on the island are special by their birth. I will assume that Ethan is Amy's kid. Or if he is not then I will assume Ethan was concieved on the island and born on the island too. Now lets go back to season 1. Scene between Charlie and Ethan. I know Ethan is bigger then Charlie but still he needed superhuman strenght in order to do the thing he did. He took Charlie by the neck with his one hand, I mean ONE HAND and he lifted him up like he was! a feather and not a grown male. I don't know how do you feel ! about it but I think thats not possible unless you are Chuck Norris. :)
So what is my point. People concieved and born (or either) on the island, 'the Islanders' like Lapidus called Juliette, are special by their birth. And maybe off the island immortal. Same like Superman. When he is on Kripton he is mortal but when he is off he is immortal. I mean we have a dead man walking, we have smoke monster a pile of smoke that is able to scan and kill, we have mind travel and time travel, man with a broken spine walking, man who doesnt seem to age, island none can see 'not even God' and it is moving not only through space but through time too so if everything about this island is special then its natives must be too. So lets put the list together. Who is native?
Richard Alpert
Charles Widmore
Eloise Hawking
Who else? Charlotte? Miles? I will talk about this maybe later or maybe in another theory. I want to stick to Charles. :)
So lets go through the main 3 'natives'
Richard Alpert
He doesnt age. He is the one finding next leaders. He is a guide.
Eloise Hawking
She is master of time. She is the only one who knows how to find the island. Does she share this knowledge with Charles. I belive yes. (everyone assumed that Chalres found the island via Desmond, by blowing up the hatch island was visible for a moment. I dont think this is how Charles found it. Why would Penny share this information? She was looking for Des, right? Charles wants to keep them apart. So no)
Charles Widmore
Dremacatcher or man who sees the furture or man who can enter someones life via dreams, something regarding the nightmares. but the result is the same. He has informations. Information means power. And he is powerful.
Lets move on. Ben thinks Charles killed his daughter. Charles says it is Ben. Ben says Charles planted the fake plane. Charles says it is Ben. Yet Charles is of the island thanks to Ben. Ben is on the island thanks to who? Ben? Charles? Widmore? Eloise? Never mind. Ben is on the island. Charles is not. So Ben is wining so far. Ben has a daughter. Charles has a daughter. Alex is not his biological daughter. What about Penny? Who is her mum? Who is that woman? Who is her dad? Charles or someone else? I wouldnt be surprised if it turns out to be someone else. Ben cant kill Charles. Charles didnt take his chance to kill Ben when he had one. Why?
Charles refers to Ben as a rat 'with those eyes of yours' and he accuses Ben of playing a victim when he clearly is not.
'Everything you have you took from me.'
Yes he did. Cause Charles was born on the island. He lived there half of his life. The Others are not The Others to him. They are his people. The same thing Locke said. 'he is one of my people' refering to Charles. The same thing Richard said.
'Charles: Yes Benjamin, it is. You creaping in to my bedroom in the dead of night like a rat and you have odessity to pretend that you are the victim. I know who you are boy. What you are. And that everything you have you took from me. So once again I ask you WHY ARE YOU HERE?'
Again me with the WHAT thing. Lets go back to la Fleur. Richard Sawyer conversation.
After Sawyer blew Richards mind with all the info Richard asked him:
'If you are not the member of DI then WHAT are you?'
What kind of question is that? He is a man. A human being.
So I am thinking again. Richard said 'It may keep OTHER THINGS OUT but not us' Then he asked WHAT ARE YOU? Then he was surprised when little Ben said he saw his dead mother. He asked him if she died on the island? So he knew about dead people walking around? What if at that point we have The Others, Dharma living on the island and some 'things' like smoke monster, dead people, well we know they are all there but what if something else is there. So Richard assumed he just met something else. And he was right. It was time traveler. Man from the future. Now back to the scene with Ben? What if Ben was the first person ever who encounter the 'undead'? Who else was able to see dead people except for Hurley and Miles? Cause I believe Miles and Hurley have this special gift. Eco, Locke, Jack, Claire. So lets put a list.
Eco saw Yemi, his brother
Locke saw but only in his dreams (except for Christian) so i will rule him out. Cause it is not the same.
Jack saw Christian, his father
Claire saw Christian, her father
Michael, saw Libby and Christian
Ben saw Emily, his mother
I will rule out Christian cause at the moment he is serving an island as a guide.
So now we have 3 names.
Mr. Eco
Michael
Ben
What do they have in common?
They are killers.
They are selfish.
They are bad people.
Mr Eco saw his brother. A priest, very good man, who died instead of him, because he was on a wrong place in a wrong time.
Michael saw Libby, his victim. She was psychiatrist(as far as I can remember), very kind and very polite, she died because she was on a wrong place in a wrong time.
Ben saw his mother. She died giving birth to Ben, maybe instead of him (if she was in a hospital then maybe doctor would choose her over Ben, that would be Rogers wish) and she died because she was on a wrong place in a wrong time. In the woods hiking instead of hospital. This is not intentional I know, but lets just be aware of who we are talking here. Benjamin Linus.
So what this means? We have 3 very corupted men. Each in different way but still bad. Nothing can justify them nothing at all. So the people who are able to see their victims are not special. They are haunted. So maybe Richard was wrong in choosing his new leader? Again? Come on Richard, for an 'old' man you should be wise. He thought this young boy has a gift. He could see his dead mother. That made him special. But he was wrong. Yet why the odd questions? Whats it to him if she died on the island? Now lets look at this.
Yemi died off the island yet he is seen on it.
Libby died off the island yet she is seen out of it.(hospital, freighter)
Emily died off the island yet she is seen on it.
So do we have a pattern her? I believe so.
Hurley and Miles are off limits. That is their gift. The rules dont apply to them. They see and hear and feel everyone. Hurley can talk to them and see them. Miles van feel them and he knows how they died.
So maybe this means WHAT. But still I am not sure. Both Ben and Eco have some strange relationship with the Smoke. Ben since forever cause he is living on the island. Eco soon after encounter with his brother. Michael never cause he didnt come back after he saw Libby. So who knows. Lets look ate 'The shape of things to come' I noticed something, as you can see I am a freak for details. Right after Alex was killed he said 'He changed the rules' he went down, through the hidden door and he did something. Later we found out that he let the Smoke out. He controls it or is it something else? BEFORE HE WENT DOWN HE WAS CLEAN, AFTER HE WAS COVERED IN SOMETHING BLACK. His basement is dirty or what? Or is it the black smoke monster? Why the sudden change in his looks? Any ideas? :)
Eco. Eco was brutally murdered by it. It was painful to watch.
'you will never find it'
How will he not if he is close to Eloise and she is able to find the island at any time? But lets just point out that at that point we didnt know Eloise existed at all. We didnt know what she can do and that she knows Charles. So if we didnt know thay maybe Ben didnt know that either. And by the look on Bens face years after when he met Locke again I am positive he had no idea what Ellie could do. If he knew that he wouldnt go through all that trouble after all it is Ben, man with the plan. Or maybe not anymore.
'Sleep tight Charles'
Can Ben control his dreams? Is he responsible for his nightmares? Or is it just irony, Ben style?
I will like to close this circle of ideas with the last one. So many times Charles found the island and if the island is really what he is after then why not go to the island, why not join the KAHANA crew? After everything I wrote here I believe that he cannot go back cause if he goes back he becomes 'mortal' or vulnerable. I mean if Ben is on the island too. That's why he sent the freighter in the first place. To extract Ben. But then he found out Ben is not on the island anymore. So why not then? That was his chance. Ah Ben is always one step ahead. He moved the island. So now none cant find it. Or at least it takes time and some luck. By the time Ellie found it again Ben got the ionformation from the locke and he is yet again back in the game. Charles is out, once again. But Christian told Locke to move it. What would happen if Locke did move it? And lets assume he leaves it loose like Ben did (Ben couldnt take that chance). If Ben is not the native Other and he didnt ha! ve time to go back to the Temple (the only safe place on the island at the moment where he sent 'the remains' of Dharma. The native Others were in the woods with Locke, right? And they are not flashing cause they are native, yet Juliette does flash because she is not native) he would flash too with the castaways. Since he lived on the island for most of his life he would get the nosebleeds first and then he would die. Once he is dead Charles would be able to come back via Locke (he would track him down cause he was watching o6) and claim his island again. Was this scenario that was suppose to happen? Or the island doesnt want neither Ben or Charles back. And where does Richard fit in? He was the first one and the only one who told Locke he will need to die. I believe he knew this because someone told him in the past. The same way he knew that locke was shot in the leg(by Ethan) when he wondered out of the jungle, he said: 'you will tell me John' But the thing is he already ! told him. But from Locke point of view HE WILL TELL HIM soon. ! Because we are talking about Richards past and Lokes future(in the past). So I am pretty sure someone will tell Richard (in the future of the show) that Locke died. That he killed himself. Maybe it will be Said. Or maybe Sawyer. The one who talks to Richard now. That's how Charles was confused when Locke told him what Richard said. He was not aware of the future back in 1977. Maybe Richard dosnt like to share. But I guess both him and Charles are on the same side. But Richard was fooled by his protege who tricked Charles. Divide then rule. Benjamin Linus. Theory by Mo Fyaah
