Okay! So after watching 5x09 "Namaste" I jumped on here to read what people thought. As I was perusing I found one person's theory that kinda made sense, I think it was justin322 or something like that, but he was talking about how the Losties of 1977 are changing history of the island which is why in 2007 or 2008 whatever, Sun and Frank go to the barracks and they are still littered with Dharma stuff. So I got to think about this theory.
OK so the Losties are assimilating to life in 1977/78 and they are re-writing history. It all started when Desmond got the flashes and started saving Charlie, I'm mimicing a theory I read sorry I'm not copyrighting I just can't remember the person who posted it first. Anywho, so Desmond saves Charlie like three times and while he's doing that he is altering the course of time. So Charlie goes to the Looking Glass and enters the code and stops the jamming transmission and season 4 happens. So had Desmond not saves Charlie, then Charlie would have died trying to save Claire and then someone else would have gone down there and they wouldn't have been able to stop the jamming. You with me?
So thinking back to how did Desmond get the flashes? It was after the Swan imploded. OK why did the Swan imploded? Cause Locke decided not to push the button anymore? Why did Locke not want to push the button anymore? Cause Ben broke his faith.
Ben Linus told Locke after the Locke down that he didn't push the button, that after the hieroglyphics came up it stopped and reset itself. At this point in time Linus had already entered into Locke's head and was messing around with his emotions and self-esteem issues. So he tells Locke that the button is fake and that it is nothing more than show.
Locke's faith destroyed and so as we see he stops pushing it and well here we are.
So why is Ben an evil Genius? I think in an original time line Ben and Widmore fought for the island. I think Widmore won and maybe because of the time travel Ben is repeating his battle and always loosing. Trying to figure out a way to win every time he resets. Almost like Scott Bakula in "Quantum Leap" he is trying to fix right what was once wrong, at least according to him, so after failing so many times he finds out that to manipulate the people in this hatch, our Losties is the only way to win. I think when Ben was walking over towards the camp he was hoping to get caught and knew that if he just got into their camp, then everything would work out in his favor. The only problem is that by doing that he got cancer, cause you can't mess with time and not get dirty.
