OK... probably going out on a limb here:
I kept looking at the name "Horace Goodspeed" last night and was conviced this is not simply a fabulous 70's porn alias, but another potential clue in the form of an anagram. There were a gazillion word combinations, and nothing seemed groundbreaking. I re-entered the name, but limited the outcome to 2-word possibilities and the only possibility was:
DOGEARED POOCHES
My first thought was "cute", but then I remembered the whole Anubis/Horus/Etc. debate. I know people are hung up on the statue's mini ears, but I don't think "dogeared pooches" is a coincidence. A jackal, like 1/2 of Anubis, is a dog (think Eukanuba brand dog food). I think Horace's name was a little hint telling us to get over the too-small-ear thing.
My husband and I got to theorizing... Why would there be a giant statue dedicated to an underworld chaperone? Maybe because Egyptians were burying their dead and shipping them off to the afterlife from the island? If we know there is a direct line from the island to Tunisia (geographically, very close to Egypt and associated ancient cultures), who is to say that the "Egyptians" weren't native to the island? I know it's a long shot, but maybe this ancient culture is originally from the island. The culture, language, etc. makes its way to northern Africa when the island's dead are "buried" (traditionally with a handful of living wives and servants). The "afterlife" is smack dab in the middle of the Tunisian desert. These unsuspecting travelers arrive and continue building their cultural empire.
Its kind of like the whole Island-Egypt version of the chicken-egg debate. What if the island is the source of man... The earliest evidence of mankind was found in northern Africa and it's long been believed that modern man first evolved in this region and subsequently radiated out. Could it be possible the true original source of mankind is the island? Theory by Erin
