If this is true I propose that the Island is one big YinYang.
The Circle shaped Island has two Vocanoes. One in the Upper-North side of the Island, and the other in the Lower-Left hand side. Both Sides represent their Chromatic Philosophy. One is Black, the Other White.
Their is a game of sorts. One that would determine who next controls the Island, and based on this Group, how the Island(or the World) is ran.
Matthew, and Richard I believe our each sides respective leader. Which side? That is for us to find out.
each side is recruiting members for a war that will be waged, and ultimately end in one of the volcanoes erupting, completely erasing(or washing away)one side. Maybe both sides will be washed away, so the Island can start with a "clean slate".
The smoke monster is the incarnation of all the souls of the dead. The dead "Bad" guys that is. The manipulators, betrayers, and such.
The Light "monster" we have yet to actually see. Locke has seen it, and it was good. It was before he has been conned into the Dark Side. He was suppose to bring balance to the Island.
The game is converting the other members, and using the lesser members to do so. The Good Guys are biding their time on the good side of the Island. They wait for someone who is willing to die "selflessly".
Locke is selfish, because he believes he is the only special person. The Most special. He puts himself above even the Island, before he is dealt with by the true chosen one, and tossed into the lake of fire.
Then Peace for a Thousand Years on the Island.
