Long time theory reader first time contributor. This theory is more bullet points on where I think we are heading for the end game based off comments from Damon and Carlton and watching the series numerous times. Along with being inspired by other theorist..
Damon and Carlton have said there is a hint in the pilot episode. I believe this hint is the backgammon comment by Locke. One side is light, one is dark. As we all know Locke has looked into the eye of the island and what he saw was beautiful. He later tells Eko he saw a bright light. In the season 1 finale the smoke monster encounters Locke and tries to drag him down to it's vent/lair probably back to the temple. Jack saves John. In "White Rabbit" Jack sees Christian and follows him into the jungle. This leads to Jack falling off a cliff and hanging on for dear life. John saves Jack. The two then have one of the most vital scenes in Lost history. A discussion about the Island being special and Jack needing to become the leader of the survivors. Throughout the series Jack and John argue over everything. Why they are there, what they need to do, etc. Jack represents science. John represents faith. We have been seeing a constant battle between science and faith! . I believe this is all about to change...
The Island is a domain of both good and evil. The bright light that John saw I believe is a spirit of good/Jacob. The Black smoke is a spirit of darkness. Christian Shepherd and Claire have been consumed by the dark force on the island. Knowing John is ultimately good, Christian tricks John into leaving the island. But John's death and meeting with Jack is what will finally get the two men on the same page. Jack will come back to the island. Locke shall rise once more as Jack's Obiwan if you will. I believe we are heading to a father vs son encounter ala Vadar and Luke between Jack and Christian. Light vs Dark. Science and Faith will become one finally. Only when Jack and Locke begin to work together, all will be right. Jack is the lead in Lost but Locke is clearly right behind him. Both are heroes in their own way. It only can work when they are on the same side.
The creators are huge star wars fans, and there is a huge father child theme, along with dark and light, and science and faith. I'd like to believe I am on the right track. Theory by LockeIsland
