Time differences: Daniel's rocket, the dead doc and 36 vs 46 hours:
I think there’s been some misinterpretation examples of time differences on the show mean. Without a detailed review I can think of 4 times where “time differences” come up (there may be more), and I think they are writers attempts to show us time dilation:
1. s5e6 "316" starts with Jack, Kate and Hurley back on the Island. Then has a caption with “46 hours earlier” before taking us back to the Lamp Post scene. But Eloise clearly says they have only 36 hours before the Event Window closes. So what happened to that 10 hours? – I think it’s another example of time discrepancy/time dilation.
2. The discrepancy in the amount of time O815 was said to have spent in the air before it crashed.
3. Daniel’s rocket experiment.
4. The dead doctor arriving on the Island “before” he was killed on the freighter.
Simple movement away from the Island cannot explain such differences in time. Simple kinematics equations DO NOT account for time differentials as large as the 31 minutes of Daniel’s rocket or the 10 hours seen in last night’s episode. This is why I have to say that they are all the writers attempts to show us time dilation.
There are 2 types of time dilation, that of general relativity and the time dilation described in special relativity. I've posted more about this in different ABC threads, but can add to this if anyone wants. Theory by ObFuSc8
