I believe that richard is jacob.
Why because whenever and whatver happens on or off the island richard has been there.
Richards appearences
1. 1954 hostiles camp
this was to do with the US military the hostiles had stolen there cloths weapons and they tents and used them as there own.Also when richard sent locke to come to him (in the next flash) when locke got their locke said to richard that jacob had sent him.
2.Richard was at the birth of locke.
3.Richard was there when locke was five and told his foster morther that locke was to join a school for very special children and gave him a test with a group of items a baseball glove, a book of laws, a vial of sand, a compass a comic book and a knife look chose the chose the knife and richard said to lockes mother he is not so special and in high school locke was given a chance to attend a science camp and locke refused. the science teacher was Richard.
4.Richard appeard unshavan and old colths but with a 20th century holster to a young ben in 1970 - 72. 1992 Richard lead the purge of the hostiles ben was then in his 30s.
5. Appeared to juilet and recruited her to the island.
And apperad in season 3 , 4 and 5
In the orcid ben said that richard could answear any questains locke had about the island and follow richards commands.
Richard knew before locke was going to say that he was shot.
Richard is aggless eveytime you see him he looks the same.
It seems what ever happens past or furture richard is their and knows what is going to happen and when you turn to someone on the island it seems to be richard for guidence. this is why i belive richard is jacob.
