I know someone has already posted a theory on why Rose and Bernard are the Adam and Eve but I felt that my reasoning makes a little more sense.
The last we saw of Rose and Bernard was when the fire arrows were falling on the camp. We don’t know how many of the background characters survived but I’m sure that Rose and Bernard did.
My theory is that they fled together and made their way to the cave because they thought they could use it as a shelter. After they made it there the flashes start happening. Since they are there alone they have no idea what’s going on. All they know is every so often there is a bright light and intense head pain. After a few flashes their noses begin to bleed too.
My theory is that one of the flashes (one where we are not quite sure where it is in time) they laid down (this would have been in the past so the bones would no longer be there) and died together. Since they died by the time the next flash came they would no longer be traveling with the island because they were no longer alive, giving the bodies proper time to decay and eventually just be bones.
I’m not sure how long it takes a body to become bones but let’s say Jack and Kate and Hurley arrive in the 70’s, somewhere along the way (before another flash) they come across the cave and peek inside and see Rose and Bernard’s partially decomposed bodies. After the initial sadness that their friends have died they notice they are in the same spot as the mysterious Adam and Eve bones. They then come to realize that Rose and Bernard’s bones are the ones they see in the future.
Maybe Jack remembers the two stones he found on the bones and sees that there are none on Rose and Bernard. Perhaps there are some in or around the cave or he has some in his pocket, he places them on their bodies so that in the future he will remember it was them.
Now I know there are holes in this story, such as why would Rose and Bernard die before Miles and Juliet and Sawyer? I can’t answer that so my theory could be completely way off but I thought it made a little sense. Let me know what you think ;) Theory by Starberryum
