After coming up with (and writing out) this theory I searched around and found that similar theories have already been posed, but hopefully
this will include a few things that havn't been mentioned so far.
Also, this is my first written theory on here, so I apologise if it's not perfectly written.
Now we know that the island is skipping through time and that Daniel Faraday has been in the same time period as Pierre Chang (Dr Marvin Candle and his many Aliases), lets look back at the 2008 comic con video from what turned out to be the god awful ARG from Hoodlum. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fo6Q7gzUjI8 <- there is the link for anyone who wants to watch it again).
Back when this came out, there was speculation that the voice of the cameraman was Daniel. Upon listening back after a lot of Daniel footage in Season 5, I am pretty sure that he was in fact the cameraman.
Add to this the fact that the island is skipping through time and we have seen Daniel literally bump into Pierre Chang and I'm pretty convinced we can call this a certainty and that in some point in a later episode the two will meet and film this video.
Pierre knows about the impending purge and that him and his collegues were killed in it, this could easily be explained as Daniel and the rest of the on island crew would have told him what happens to the Dharma Initiative. He also seems pretty worried about it and for good reason.
I'm just going to go ahead and say a big part of my theory now, and explain it afterwards. Miles is Pierre Chang's son.
Think back to S05E01 - Because you left. In the Dharma flashback/forward Pierre is seen to be having a relationship with a woman and he is then shown holding his child (Miles). Miles is the same child heard in the comic con video and the woman he shouts to is the Miles' mother. Now, after learning of the purge, Pierre panics and is desperate to save his son by any means. Somehow, he gets Miles off the island to grow up without his real parents.
By this time Miles has already spent a notable period of time on the island, explaining his nosebleed in S05E04 - The Little Price. This also explains how he doesn't remember ever being on the island as he was too young to have any memories of it. (As a side note, it is possible that being born on the island has given him his special ablilities).
(The part of my theory above is what I believe, the next part is mainly guesswork and has less 'proof' or evidence to back it up)
Miles should have died in the purge, but he should have died nonetheless. The past cannot be changed as it has been said by Daniel and as with Charlie. Pierre prolonged his life but his course will be corrected and he will not be able to escape his fate.
(As another side note Straume may have been the name of the family that adopted Miles, or it could have been picked out for him by the master of all aliases and fake names - Pierre Chang).
With Miles being off Island, he may have escaped the course correction possibly by entering the off island timeline, explaining how he has grown to be a man and is still alive and well. However now he is back on the island his fate will now be inescapable and Miles will somehow meet his demise on this island. Theory by Matthew Haywood
