I don't know if it was posted before but here it goes...
Jacob is from the future...
That's why he ask Locke to help him...
If a specific sequences of events doesn't occur, he may never exist...
Just like in Back to the future when Marty McFly notice that his brother, sister and even him self began to disappear...
So that's why some people are moving through time, to make those events..
It's like in the 4400, the future people try to change the future by changing the past.
So we are all focusing on the present and the past but the real thing is the future...
It would explain how Jacob have list of names for specific people that he knows have made things for this future to happen...
It would explain why he knows all those information about all the people like the files that gives information on Widmore and Locke's father...
So my theory is that we're currently looking on the wrong path of the time line to explain why things are happening this way...Theory by ShrimpBoyTheQuick
